Meet Rianne Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rianne Thomas.

Rianne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started dancing at the age of three. My mom has always been an active supporter of kids participating in after school activities. And she loves to dance. It was her decision to introduce me to something different other than the typical YMCA or your local after-school recreation centers. She chose ballet. I remember feeling uncomfortable being there, but after my first class, I actually loved it!

In the dance industry, training is key. As a kid, I was blessed and fortunate to have been actively training almost year-round in some form or fashion. And with a big sister who was a cheerleader in high school, I gravitated towards that part of dancing. It was during those times that my family knew that I had a natural talent in choreography. At five y/o, I made an easy transition to becoming a competitive cheerleader in Pensacola, FL. It wasn’t long before the coaches used that ability of mine to be the team’s secret weapon. However, in all fairness though, we did have a bomb team. It was the best times I remember as a kid.

After a couple of seasons in cheerleading, my mom made the decision to leave the fun side of competitive cheer behind and set a new challenge for me. She noticed that I get bored after I master the choreography that’s being taught for quite some time. This time was competitive dancing with a dance company.

Around this time, hit shows such as ‘Dance Moms’, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, and ‘Bring It!’ were fueling my inspirations of wanting to become a professional dancer. After a year of company dancing and unsure of where to turn to for the next bigger challenge, it would be yet another blessing I received of having the opportunity to train and grow in California. In late summer of 2014, my family moved to San Diego. My time there was phenomenal as I got to experience the life and ways of a professional dancer at an intermediate level and make new friends while doing it.

I joined one of San Diego’s most experienced dance studio as a beginner/intermediate (Studio FX) and ultimately grew into their advanced level within three years. Early on at Studio FX, my dance coach/studio owner recommended to my mom, I should audition for an agent due to my musicality and overall presence.

It wouldn’t be long afterwards that my mom sought a local talent development agency to prepare me for Hollywood. From there, I trained for a year and worked on other talents I had in acting and modeling. This led to an opportunity to participate in an annual talent showcase that hosted a panel of judges from the industry’s leading talent agencies for dance, film, and television.

In the end, that evening’s performance led to me receiving over 29 callbacks. I ultimately chose to sign with CTG (Clear Talent Group). Since my time with them (2015), my dance career has been nothing short of amazing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My father taught me that no road to success is an easy one. He was right. I experienced times of wanting to give up on myself because other dancers seem to have more of that special stuff that I thought I might have had. Almost every dance teacher I’ve worked with have said that one day I will be something great for this world to see, but some days were proving to be otherwise. However, with the support of my family, I was always able to find that courage and strength I needed to keep pushing myself instead of doubting myself during those times.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I use my name Rianne Thomas in the entertainment business as a teen actress, dancer, singer, and voiceover artist. I am most proud of the team that I have who are my parents. I lean on my mom to help me with the finance & management and my dad for all media & creative content stuff. I believe having parents playing a part in creating this kind of team alone sets me apart from anyone else within my age range that are in my competing field. I love you mom & dad!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories was teaching a Zumba class at seven years old. I would attend with mom every week. One day the dance instructor saw how I was able to remember all the steps and out of the blue she asked me to teach for a bit and walked away. I think she knew it would make me happy if I were to do that.
