Today we’d like to introduce you to Annika Alexandra.
Annika, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had the love of photography since I was a teenager. Once I moved out to LA, I had a few successful years in the acting industry but my heart wasn’t there. It was when I was shooting new headshots, etc. I realized I was on the wrong side of the camera and my true passion was photography. Throughout the years I’ve learned the art of photography through photographers I’ve shot with as well as classes and true life experience. I love the creativity it entails as well as the long-lasting relationships I have with my clients. Some of the recent opportunities I’ve had were working as a freelance photographer for the LA Times at the Festival of Books, as a freelance photographer for multiple matchmaking companies, Make A Wish Walk For Wishes, and a food/event photographer at a private party for celebrity chef Jack Lee in Beverly Hills.
Has it been a smooth road?
I decided it was now or never to see if I had a true future in photography. Sure, there were bumps in the road, learning how to use the equipment, best lighting, Photoshop, etc. I am self-taught, I took classes/watched seminars online. To me the technical aspect is the boring part, I adore being outside creating the perfect shot by thinking outside the box.
How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Growing up I was the shyest, quietest girl in the grade, one of my oldest friends said I would always whisper when I spoke. My passions were dancing, writing, and traveling.
Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
My favorite memory would have to be our family trips. I was blessed to be able to see 13 countries and each place was amazing in its own unique way.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to growing my photography business. I love how it allows me to be creative and each shoot teaches me something new.
