Today we’d like to introduce you to Rakeisha Smitherman-Muiruri.
Rakeisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Workbook Shop was created based on a need I saw as a Real Estate Broker and mom. Many people want to purchase properties but have no idea where to begin or how important financial literacy is in the process. The notebook line was created because my daughter made a comment to me while we were in the store shopping that none of the girls on the covers look like us. I went home and designed the notebooks for her. Once people begin to see them they started to request them so I added them to the book lineup.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely has been some challenges. One of the biggest struggles was that I launched the book right when Covid hit, so me having to do more online marketing versus the in person definitely threw me for a loop. I am learning daily and have had people all over the US order from me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My professional background is in Real Estate. I have been a Real Estate Broker for over ten years and have personally purchased three properties of my own. What sets me apart is my transparent, layman’s terms approach to home buying and the focus on affordability. Many people who talk about homeownership never cover how important it is to really know your own personal numbers to not become house poor and to make sure you can still live the lifestyle you desire. I am most proud that people from ALL over the country contact me for my expertise to purchase a home. They always reference my approach and honesty is what makes them want to work with me. I want readers to know that The Workbook Shop’s purpose is to open up dialogue and transform the lives of people that desire a change by openly discussing subjects that are often not addressed in our communities. These subjects include property buying, equity, ownership, representation, imagery, information sharing, poverty mindset (not just wallet based), differences and financial literacy. We are about diversity, inclusion and representation on ALL levels. Our desire is simply to aid, empower and educate.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Yes, I took a major risk when I decided to write books and launch them. Having the information and being able to properly package it are different things. Throw in having to market your product to strangers it is definitely a risk and challenging. I believe in taking risks. I want to exercise all my talents which requires me to take risks.
