Meet Rajat Patel of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rajat Patel

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been into movies since childhood, my parents used to take me to theaters often, and they’ve always been supportive of my artistic journey. Growing up, I explored various art forms, I was a dancer, keyboard player, and host/ speaker, which eventually led me to collaborate on films.

This passion drove me to pursue an arts degree in film and journalism with a marketing minor from India, followed by a Film Producing course at NYFA in Los Angeles. with 6 + years of experience in film and advertising in India and now Los Angeles, I’m also a founder of a production house from India called “Flawed Film Factory”. I’ve worked as a producer, director, assistant director, and editor on various projects. Some of my notable works include Gulaam a Gujarati short film and various music videos like Room 103 by Mr.GNG, Anal Haq, and Mr.GNG’s upcoming collab with Rudy Ayub, which earned awards and nominations. One of my recent films, For English Press 1, was an incredible learning experience, collaborating with a talented team.

As a Producer, I’m focused on pushing Indian cinema forward, especially Gujarati cinema, on an international level, blending realism with cultural richness. Beyond filmmaking, I have a deep passion for music and events, and I see collaboration across these industries as an exciting opportunity for storytelling. My goal is to create impactful films and campaigns that resonate globally while staying true to my roots.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth, but that’s what makes the journey meaningful. Filmmaking is a field where passion and perseverance go hand in hand, and I’ve had my fair share of struggles and I continue to embrace it with open heart.

Breaking into the industry wasn’t easy, especially coming from Gujarat, where the film scene isn’t as established as in Mumbai or Los Angeles. I had to carve my path, constantly proving myself while adapting to different work cultures. Financial constraints, long hours, and the unpredictability of freelance work were challenging, but they also made me more resilient. It cost me my relationships even.

Another struggle is finding the right people to collaborate with people who share the same vision and drive. The industry is competitive, and not every project sees the light of day. In fact, in the beginning, you make a lot of projects that never get released or don’t reach the audience you hoped for. That was one of the hardest lessons, putting so much effort and creativity into something that might never be seen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Film Producer specializing in all kinds of Film Producing and Consultancy. My work spans films, music videos, events, consultancy, and brand campaigns in the field. Over the years, My education in films, marketing, and production and experience has given me a broader perspective on visual arts as a business, later helping me establish my own Film Production venture.

I take pride in my adaptability having worked in both Indian and international markets, I understand the nuances of different storytelling styles and production workflows.

It’s my deep commitment and love for what I do. I started with a strong technical background before stepping into producing, which gives me a unique perspective. I understand the craft from the ground up, not just from a creative standpoint but also from a logistical and financial one. Filmmaking is a collaborative art form, and I have a solid grasp of how different art forms intersect with it. Plus, having a strong knowledge of budgets and markets helps me maintain that balance between art and commerce, making sure the creative vision aligns with the business side of things.

What’s next?
My plans revolve around pushing the boundaries of storytelling by blending film, music, and events to create immersive experiences. I see filmmaking as a collaborative art form where science, arts, and business intersect, and I constantly study innovations that will shape the future of cinema.

One of my key goals is to contribute to the evolution of Indian cinema on a global stage, bringing authentic cultural narratives to a wider audience. that connects people from different cultural backgrounds.

Whether it’s collaborating with visionary production houses, experimenting with new storytelling mediums, or expanding my work into international markets, I’m excited about the journey ahead. Big changes are inevitable, but that’s what makes the process exciting.
