Today we’d like to introduce you to Peggy Tserwen Tseng
Hi Peggy Tserwen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Peggy Tserwen Tseng, and I work as a professional vertical show producer, with a deep passion for directing stories that speak to my heart.
While in film school, I dedicated myself to writing and directing two short films and a feature-length project. This hands-on experience gave me a comprehensive understanding of the entire filmmaking process—from writing and directing to cinematography and editing. This knowledge shaped me into a well-rounded producer, someone who understands the craft inside and out, ensuring every detail is handled with care and precision to lead a successful production.
For me, storytelling is about creating connections and sparking conversations, whether through producing shows or directing films. My debut short film, Jade, has been featured in over 15 film festivals, and I’m currently in post-production for two new projects: another short, Festival, and my first feature, Miss Mermaid. Our crowdfunding campaign raised $20K from supporters who connected with our themes, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see how these stories resonate with audiences.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After graduating from film school, many of my friends outside the industry assumed that finding work in film would be straightforward. But breaking into the industry is anything but easy. Like many others, I started out working on commercials, music videos, and unrelated jobs just to make ends meet. It reminds me of Mia’s struggle in La La Land—waiting tables to support her acting dream. This kind of hustle is a common reality in our industry.
While luck plays a role, staying active and hungry is key. Embracing every opportunity, whether it’s in creative or commercial work, has helped me grow as a producer. If I hadn’t been willing to learn and adapt, I wouldn’t have been ready when my current job opportunity came up.
The idea of the ‘struggling artist’ isn’t just a cliché—it’s a real challenge many of us face. Success in this industry requires more than just talent and passion; it takes time, luck, connections, and resources. Despite the struggles, what keeps me going is my deep passion for storytelling and my belief in the power of art and media to make meaningful contributions to society.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a producer for a vertical show, where I specialize in crafting fast-paced, engaging narratives filled with twists. Every month, I receive scripts from our writing team and transform them into dramatic, narrative-driven footage, which is then handed off to post-production. Producing for vertical platforms requires a deep understanding of audience engagement and the ability to convey powerful stories within a limited frame.
Building strong relationships is key to this role. The film industry thrives on collaboration, and I take pride in fostering meaningful connections with filmmakers, producers, and other professionals. These relationships help create long-term partnerships that elevate the quality of every project we work on.
I’m particularly proud of my commitment to lifelong learning. My experience spans various aspects of filmmaking—writing, directing, camera work, and editing. This hands-on knowledge enhances my role as a producer and allows me to lead teams confidently. For those starting out, I always recommend gaining practical experience across different areas of filmmaking. It not only strengthens your individual work but also improves collaboration with others.
Ultimately, what sets me apart in content production is my ability to balance creative vision, industry insight, and collaborative leadership in a fast-evolving landscape.
