Meet Patrick Flippin of Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Flippin

Hi Patrick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It actually started as a rhetorical question. I had been randomly let go from a temp job that I thought was going to last forever and I was talking to my older sister about my frustrations with the roll-out of it. She mentioned that I had always had a natural talent in selecting clothes for other people. Even as a child moving into my teenage years, I was always someone’s image consultant. “Patrick, what do you think about this?” or “Patrick, does this go with this or with that?” etc… so that night she mentioned that I was really talented in that department and I, enter the rhetorical question, asked “So what should I be, a stylist or something?” She answered “yes” and the rest is history in my eyes. I began doing my research, reaching out to whoever would talk to me, and worked any side retail job involving wardrobe. That led me to my first fitting with a celebrity on tour, and from that fitting I poured my energy into styling and costume.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road?! Absolutely not. I have spent money, time, and resources for things to fall through and not happen. I have had HORRIBLE experiences with other creatives on set. I have “interned” for people under the guise of gaining on-set experience only for me to be surprised that they wanted me to clean their closets. I have horror stories for days, but I think that I’ve always intrinsically understood that these bumps make up the journey and as long as I’m learning, there aren’t any regrets.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a fashion stylist currently in Los Angeles, CA specializing in keeping people sane on-sets LOL. Wardrobe is such a vulnerable space for people, especially when nerves are buzzing about, but I genuinely feel it’s my job to not only have an aesthetic vision, but allow the client to see it also. I have a pretty balanced portfolio of work ranging from editorial and event styling to personal. I think my full range service sets me apart from others. Operating in excellence is what I believe I consistently bring to the table. Allowing natural energy to flow is important in a creative exchange and I try my best to always remain in that space versus forcing something unnatural.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
God for sure deserves much of the credit, because my path has been more blessed than I could’ve imagined and I’m nowhere near finished. My family supports everything that I do, all of the celebrity managers I’ve interacted with – good or bad – have taught me something. ALL of the creatives that I’ve collaborated with over the years from shoots to shows have been amazing. That’s exactly how I was contacted by VoyageLA, another creative. This entire journey (to me) has been learning in addition to moving with intention and I try my best to keep myself open to the process at all times.
