Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesca Bevens.
Francesca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always loved makeup. Growing up a dancer my mom taught me all the essentials to show makeup. My mom was a professional dancer as well so that made it easy and fun. As I got older and entered into a performing arts high school as a dance major I realized I needed a backup career in case dance did not work out. I figured out that makeup was going to be that career! My grandparents sponsored me to go to one of the best makeup schools in Hollywood, Cinema Makeup School. I knew my interest was anything involving beauty makeup so I took a course focusing on tv/film, runway/photoshoots, and weddings . I learned so much from color correcting to different makeup styles throughout the eras.
After school ended I took off into an exciting and successful dance career. I danced/ lived in Tokyo Japan, have been a dancer for the Disneyland Resort and a backup dancer for the singer Bonnie Mckee! Throughout my dance career, I have still loved doing people’s makeup and have made a point in continuing to pursue it. Between dance jobs, I have done numerous photo shoots and events including head shots, editorial looks, and weddings. Being on set for a photo shoot is so thrilling and I enjoy assisting with hair and clothing options. It brings me so much joy to see the clients look at their face when I am finished and say “I feel beautiful!” My husband and I are expecting our first baby and I am so thrilled to have even more time for makeup jobs.
Has it been a smooth road?
My family and husband have always supported me and my career choices. I am blessed to have their love and support and would not be where I am today without them.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I would love to branch into the bridal industry more. My wedding day was one of the best days of my life. To be a part of that special day with brides is one of the most rewarding feelings and I would love to experience more of that.
What would you say has been the biggest challenge for you over the course of your career?
There are so many talented artists in LA that sometimes it is difficult to become more well known. I have been so fortunate to gain most of my clients by word of mouth and I feel that is one of the best ways to get recognized. I hope to continue gaining more clients that way and to always keep promoting myself/work.
What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Be a hygienic makeup artist! Hygiene is extremely important to me and by attending Cinema Makeup School I learned everything I needed to know about being a clean artist . If makeup is something you love and are passionate about do not give up. Every makeup artist has their own style and there are so many clients out there who will appreciate you and your work if you keep true to yourself.
