Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Portnoy and Alexa Marie Anderson.
Pamela and Alexa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We’re both actors who met and became friends while working together at our side hustle in 2017. We would often find ourselves venting, dreaming, and laughing together at the end of our long shifts and would consistently talk about how much we wanted to create our own work. Starting a podcast became the running joke, and finally, we did. It was important for us to create a show that was centered around our passion for both acting and adventure, which also provided a fun and creative space to vent about our triumphs and struggles in pursuing our professional careers in Los Angeles. In 2019 we finally pulled the trigger and started recording.
Since our show premiered, we’ve had the opportunity to interview some incredible guests, like Tina Casciani (Pandora, The Young and the Restless), Dan Feuerriegel (Spartacus, Pacific Rim Uprising), Adam Mendler (Thirty Minute Mentors), and James Pratt (Malibu Crush). We’ve also gone on some amazing adventures in order to explore a wide spectrum of emotions in order to become better actors and better human beings in the process. We went skydiving to lean into our fear, pole-dancing for empowerment, and the Rage Room in Downtown LA to explore our anger. Talking about these experiences has really allowed us to open up a dialogue about vulnerability and the human experience with our listeners.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In a word, technology. It’s been a challenge learning how to go from recording in a studio to recording remotely during this unprecedented time. We finally feel like we’ve gotten the hang of it, with the help of the amazing Jason Crow, who edits our show, but we also don’t want to jinx it.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
We are a female podcasting duo and real-life friends. We both feel incredibly fortunate to have found a partnership where we can be completely transparent with one another. If you listen to our podcast, you’ll quickly see that we don’t always agree, but we always do value and celebrate our differences in opinion. Additionally, I think what sets us apart from other actor podcasts is our vulnerability. We’re constantly stepping out of our comfort zones to figure out what makes us both tick, and we’re dragging our listeners along for the ride. But don’t worry, there’s always wine!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many people who have been a part of our journey. First and foremost, we want to thank Jason Crow of Soundworc Studios, who has been an unstoppable force of advice, encouragement, and laughs, not to mention a genius in editing and technology. Jordon Ross Weinhold created music for us that is an absolute joy to our theatrical ears. We are also so grateful to Claire Palmer, who heroically stepped in after we tried and miserably failed to make our own logo, as well as J.D. Palmer, for his incredible word wizardry. Sean Moore and Brittney Bertier somehow and miraculously made us look the way we do in our photos, and all of our show’s guests have been an absolute delight and pleasure to learn from and listen to. Lastly, our friends and family have laughed at our jokes, sat kindly and quietly through some minor hysterics, and helped us spread the word about our beloved project!
