Hi Nonie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Many years ago in the kitchens of Hungary and Austria formulations of plant oils, fruit juices, and other organic ingredients were used to soothe, heal and renew the skin. Passed down through the centuries, Nonie has taken this natural concept to the 21st Century. Starting in her kitchen, Nonie made products for her own skin care. But once the word got out of what she used to look so young and ‘fresh’, she knew she couldn’t keep it to herself. Friends, family and anyone hearing about this wonderful skin treatment had to have it!
Nonie started the company when she was 66 and did so as she realized her old Hungarian skin care formula was better than anything she was offered in the stores. Nonie’s laboratory opened January 1994, and the popularity of Nonie’s products grew rapidly. Many Whole Foods Markets and other retail locations known for high quality natural products called on Nonie’s skin care line.
Today, Nonie of Beverly Hills is owned and operated by Mr. Mendel Duchman, who purchased this natural skincare company with the encouragement of his wife and six daughters. Nonie Fagatt remained on as a spokesperson until her passing on October 6, 2011. The company continually strives to maintain the highest standards of formulating the products dating back centuries to Hungary.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but it has been a meaningful journey. When Nonie first started, clean beauty wasn’t the movement it is today—people weren’t as aware of the harmful effects that toxic ingredients in cosmetics could have on their health. It took time, education, and persistence to help consumers understand the importance of reading labels and choosing products that are not only effective but also free of harsh chemicals.
One of our biggest challenges was standing out in a market dominated by synthetic formulas and misleading “natural” claims. But we stayed true to our roots, never compromising on our commitment to clean, plant-based skincare. Today, more people are realizing that what they put on their skin matters just as much as what they put in their bodies.
We are also proud to be 100% vegan and cruelty-free, something Nonie herself was passionate about from the beginning. We believe beauty should never come at the cost of animals or our health. It hasn’t always been easy, but seeing the growing demand for truly natural skincare proves that we were on the right path all along.

Luck has played a role in our journey, but more than anything, it has been passion, persistence, and staying true to our values that have brought Nonie of Beverly Hills to where it is today. In the early days, we were fortunate that people quickly saw the benefits of our clean, natural formulas—word-of-mouth played a huge role in our growth. When Nonie first started sharing her products, it was almost by chance that people became curious about how she maintained such youthful, glowing skin. That curiosity turned into demand, and from there, the brand was born.
At the same time, we’ve faced challenges where it seemed like bad luck was working against us. Competing in an industry dominated by big beauty brands with massive marketing budgets hasn’t been easy. There were times when clean beauty was dismissed as a niche market, and getting people to care about ingredients was an uphill battle. But with time, consumer awareness shifted, and the market came to us.
Ultimately, while luck may have played a part in certain moments, we believe our success comes from the dedication to our mission: providing truly natural, vegan, and cruelty-free skincare that people can trust.
