Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikkia Johnson.
Hi Nikkia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey with using herbs as medicine started with my pregnancy five years ago. It was extremely difficult and I needed solutions that I felt would not harm my baby. At the suggestion of my partner, I looked into herbs and herbal teas. I couldn’t find any that were specific to what I needed, so I started blending.
Once I saw that I was having positive results, I continued looking for ways to avoid over the counter medications. After testing my blends on friends and family with positive results and feedback, and at the nudging of my partner, I became a business.
My blends have helped many pregnant women and just people in general who needed relief from migraine pain, anxiety, nausea, PMS symptoms, and more.
During this journey, I have been able to do amazing things like a tea-infused beer and even a short appearance on GMA!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has had ups and downs. The struggle to keep the business afloat can feel daunting to me because I’m a novice to this world of entrepreneurship. There’s so much to learn and I’m learning and immediately applying. Almost like building the plane while you’re already flying. It’s scary and exciting.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Tranquilitea is hand-blended loose-leaf herbal tea. There are nine teas total that come in either 2-ounce or 4-ounce packages. We also offer a sample pack and gift boxes. All of our teas are blended with intention. The goal is to rely on herbs to help your body regulate the symptom that you may be dealing with. Our teas help fight cold and congestion, PMS bloating and cramping, migraine symptoms, insomnia, inflammation, anxiety, acne, nausea and IBS. Unlike most other herbal teas, all of our herbal teas have either a fruit or spice element to sweeten them.
We source all of our herbs from POC farmers and herbalists. We understand that they may be under represented and it’s important for us to support and pour back into them.
One funny aspect of our brand is the color-Tiffany Blue. This came about wanting to create a color palate that was representative of my SoCal vibe while being classic. Some people can’t get the name right, but they know the logo, and we love that! People also like the names of the teas. I have a pretty dry sense of humor, so I had a lot of fun naming them all. Periods Suck is one of our best sellers.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The herbal tea industry is growing rapidly. Before 2020, there was already a need and society moving in the direction of being more health conscious. Now the demand for herbal remedies has gone through the roof. I expect to see more brands adding herbs to their roster or doing something to play around with the taste and look of herbal tea. If you look now, not all herbal teas are fun-we are here to bring that.
