Today we’d like to introduce you to Nihar Mehta.
Hi Nihar, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I arrived in the United States in early 2020 to study Industrial Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Initially from the populous city of Mumbai, the quaintness of Savannah caught me off guard. The same place would then be my muse in my artistic endeavor to be a modern-day street photographer. Over here, I honed my skills in User Experience Design and Computer-aided 3D product design in school. As I worked towards my Master’s degree, I gained significant work experience working alongside a team of talented individuals from Denver-based Xactly Corp, followed by possibly one of the toughest user research projects for Google Pay. Currently, I am curbing my aesthetic obsession with material studies and sustainability by designing a series of semi-futuristic consumer electronics using a proprietary bio-material.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The relative struggle while maintaining the balance between the shock of an extrinsically derived culture, a really bad breakup, and unseasoned American food, I fell in love with certain stoic practices that spiritually enriched my presence. Finding the thin line between impulsivity and calculated risk-taking was one of the biggest struggles I have faced on my creative journey.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next few years, I see the product design market (digital + physical) increasingly move towards Virtual Reality and Artificial intelligence-focused solutions.
