Today we’d like to introduce you to Nagihan Ozturk.
Hi Nagihan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have a deep passion for traveling, having explored over 20 countries thus far. I had an epiphany during one trip to America, particularly in the vibrant city of Hollywood. Surrounded by experts in various fields and immersed in the heart of the music scene, I discovered my true calling. It became clear that I wanted to stay in this country and pursue my dreams. My best decision was founding “La Independent Film & Music Production.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I didn’t encounter numerous problems, the journey presented its challenges, particularly in adapting to an unfamiliar country and acclimating to a new environment. Despite this, the associations, non-profit organizations, and art communities I engaged with played a crucial role in ensuring I never felt alone. The individuals who stood by me in every decision and every endeavor reaffirmed that I was on the right path.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For years, I utilized my music education, specializing in Piano and Opera singing, to mentor numerous musicians. Initially planning a career in education to impact the lives of aspiring musicians, little did I know that life would guide me to where I am now. Over time, I had the privilege of teaching over 100 students, each with diverse goals—from preparing for conservatories to pursuing studies abroad or certificate programs. These achievements have become a source of pride for me.
However, I have recently transitioned from the realm of music education to the practical application field, specifically within the film and music industry. My primary goal in this shift is to draw motivation and enrich my experiences by venturing into a different facet of the music world. This aspect may distinguish me from others, as I consistently choose to start anew with each decision, pushing beyond my comfort zone without giving up. Remarkably, I continue to achieve excellent results every time.
Currently involved in projects such as commercials and movie soundtracks, I have embarked on yet another exciting journey—working on the release of my single song! See you soon;)
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That’s a fascinating question, and I have a compelling story about it.
During the 2019 Covid period while residing in Canada, my brother, his wife, and I, like many others, spent months in the garden of our house. Being an avid reader and diary keeper, I practically earned a master’s degree in those two fields during that time right there in the backyard 🙂 Haha! While jotting down notes about various books and authors in my diary, my brother’s wife approached me and remarked on the depth of my writings, suggesting, “Why not turn them into songs? Why keep it confined?” It was a thought-provoking moment. While in Canada that day, I decided to explore the Vancouver Film and Music School and pursue my second degree in this field. It marked the initial stride toward the life I’m currently leading, even though I eventually opted to study in Los Angeles instead of Vancouver.
