Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Huang.
Hi Monica , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I’m Monica and I started Monica Piano and Flute studio my last quarter at University of California Irvine. Funny enough, my studio started as a bet with my mom. I was bored during my last quarter at UCI and started advertising my business on Nextdoor app, a community application. I got my first student within a few weeks and my mom thought she would quit after 1 month of flute lessons. Turns out, she studied with me for 2 years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. As a last quarter college student, I had to learn how to communicate with my clients, meet their expectations and needs, schedule the classes, collect fees and learn how to use different teaching method to teach each individual students. All of my clients are older than me, so I had to learn how to communicate with them. It took me 3 years to actually build up my studio.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hi! I’m Monica and I specialize in teaching piano and flute to ages 5- high schoolers. I travel to client’s house so the parents do not have to drive to me with a traveling fee included. What sets me apart from other is I personalize each lesson and I buy gifts for my students during the holiday season. I also incorporate fun pieces for my students to play.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being able to see my student’s growth in their musical journey makes me happy because they are progressing as the future generation of musicians.
