Meet Mohamed Athimni of ARTUNISIA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mohamed Athimni

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
This is my family business. My father has been producing kitchenware from olive wood since the 1990s, initially selling his products in Europe. I came to the United States to share his incredible craftsmanship and introduce in to the American market. In 2023, I started my own company and became part of various farmers’ markets between San Diego and Los Angeles. Now, I have an online store and am working toward expanding into a larger market, aiming for new opportunities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning is tough for most businesses, and mine was not different. Figuring put the shipping process and getting goods into the U.S. was challenging, but I improved with each pallet. Getting into farmers’ markets, especially in LA with their long waiting lists, has also been difficult. These early obstacles are part of building a solid foundation.

As you know, we’re big fans of ARTUNISIA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our business, Artunisia, is licensed by the Tunisian government to sustainably harvest olive trees that no longer produce oil, allowing for new trees to be planted in they place. We specialize in transforming this wood into high-quality, natural houseware pieces, which we ship to Europe and now to the U.S. Our products are 100% natural, made without chemicals, ensuring a healthier and safer choice for our customers. Olive wood has a unique and beautiful grain, and we take pride in the fact that around 80% of our pieces are inspired by customer suggestions and needs. If you have a specific idea, we can bring it to life.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My dad always been my biggest supporter and mentor. I grew up in his workshop, where he taught me everything I know. when I was 16, he started taking me to Europe with him to teach me how to sell and communicate with customers as he met with his local clients. today, he handles production and shipping to me and my wholesale customers. My friend, Theodore has also been a great help, sharing his knowledge and giving me valuable advices to keep me improving in America.
