Meet Mitra Khorramian of The Korra Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitra Khorramian.

Hi mitra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Honestly, it all started with my love of Legos. I was always drawn to the mechanics of building—how things come together, how space is formed and functions. As a woman, I’ve often been met with the assumption that building is a man’s domain, but the truth is, construction isn’t about gender—it’s about understanding space, structure, and how people move through it.

Women often interpret space differently than men, and that perspective brings a valuable, and often overlooked, layer to the building process. My journey has been about proving that we belong in this field not because we’re the exception, but because we bring something essential to it. Today, after more than two decades in construction, I lead my own company and continue to advocate for that broader, more inclusive view of what it means to build well.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. I’ve faced gender biases—both from people who chose not to hire me because I’m a woman, and more recently, from those who hire me because I’m a woman, which brings its own set of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles has been earning the respect of the labor force I work with, which has traditionally been male-dominated. I had to prove that I actually know what I’m talking about and that I can lead a project just as well—if not better—than anyone else.

That said, I’ve also seen some evolution in the industry, and I’m hopeful. More people are starting to recognize the value of diverse perspectives in construction, and I’m proud to be part of that shift.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m the founder of Korra Construction Services, a woman-owned construction company based in Los Angeles. We specialize in high-end residential renovations, ground-up builds, and historic preservation projects. What we’re known for—and what I’m most proud of—is our deep attention to detail, honest communication, and the way we truly guide our clients through every step of the process.

What sets us apart is not just the quality of our work, but the quality of our relationships. I’m hands-on, I care deeply, and I’ve built this company on transparency, trust, and respect—for the craft, the client, and the crew.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Korra reflects integrity. We’re not just building beautiful homes—we’re creating spaces that work, last, and feel right.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest in this work is seeing something go from concept to reality. There’s nothing like standing in a space that was once just a set of plans—or even just an idea—and knowing that every detail, every challenge, every decision brought it to life. I love the structure, the problem-solving, the sequencing—how every trade has to come together in harmony. And honestly, what really brings me joy is seeing a client walk into their finished space and feel at home. That moment makes all the chaos, coordination, and hard work worth it.
