Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Peredia.
Miguel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Grew up in 80’s in the city of La Puente, at age 11 saw my cousin Djing a house party.
I was fascinated by the lights music and being a big fan of Saturday Night Fever, I knew this was something I’d like to do. One time a friend showed me how to mix on a double tape deck and as I got more interested in music and break dancing this all mashed in together. When I had saved some money, I bought my first set up not the expensive kind but got me by to practice and create a party crew. There was about 10 of us that would show up at a house party to DJ. There was not enough time for all of us to DJ or money to go around. That’s when it stuck in my head I started to do Quinceaneras , school dances and weddings. As I got older and moved on got married I bought some new equipment for my son as he was interested. But to my disappointment he didn’t pick it up and lost interest. One day I was broke and I was staring at my equipment and that idea popped in my head. I said to myself why not start my own business on the side as a mobile DJ. I kept getting clients by hear say posted ads at laundry and placed ads on the penny saver. But it seemed like that was not enough. Till one day at my regular work I met someone his wife owned a hall. From that hall, I started to DJ on a regular basis. From there I met two ladies that took me to another level. They owned several venues in Riverside Ca and the raves of my good customer service along with DJ skills has kept me going. I might not do it as a regular job but it keeps me going. From website, Instagram to Yelp my satisfaction is seeing my customers happy. It’s nice to see my clients on social media as they grow into their own families and it’s a pleasure to say “hey I played their favorite music…”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Just like in life there are bumps on the road seasons get slow and you just roll with it.
Life doesn’t stop just like music never stops, the louder the better. Djing has kept food on the table to the grace of GOD.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
If I told you my secrets then everyone would do it.
But the one thing I can say is keeping a good communication with the brides and Grooms and any other client takes you a long way. Listen to what they want not what you want.
What were you like growing up?
I am a person who sets his mind on something and gets it.
