Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Malley.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Iress began as Iris in 2011. With our name change came maturity and growth. Since then, the band has played all over Southern California, the US and has left their stamp on Los Angeles. Michelle and Michael have been in the band since day 1 but we’ve all been friends for years and the lineup we have today is truly magical.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been easy but we always overcome. One struggle in particular was when Michelle broke her arm in 2019. We did have to cancel one of our shows but we continued to book more and found different guitarists to fill in while Michelle still sang, cast in all. When she finally healed, we were ready to get back to work and release our album ‘Flaw” and then the pandemic hit. We didn’t let that stop us from releasing it and ‘Flaw’ actually did amazingly well despite it all and has brought us much success.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are known for making heavy, melodic, hypnotizing music that takes you on an emotional journey. I think we are most proud of our latest release, ‘Solace’. It’s the beginning of the next chapter for Iress. We have so much to say and we are more inspired than ever. I think what sets us apart is our live performance. Some have said it’s raw and real and powerful.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Never give up.
