Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Brown.
Hi Michelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I studied at Cal Poly University with a degree in Environmental Design. After working in a variety of roles, I realized that Interior Design was my true passion when my husband and I decided to design and build a new home for our growing family in Pacific Palisades, CA. Since it was the love for my family and children that drove the start of my interior design business; it only seemed fitting to name the design studio after my two children (Bennett & Jaclyn).
I now work with private clients creating tailor-made designs and interiors all across the country. BELYN STUDIO is a full-service interior design studio that specializes in residential and commercial design from concept to completion. Offering services such as: floor plan development, interior drawings, custom cabinetry, finishes, furniture, window treatments, styling, and turn-key installation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took me some time to truly figure out where I wanted to settle in career-wise. I had worked in marketing and the event business, and interior design was always more of passion hobby, learning auto CAD and Sketchup for fun, and working on remodels and builds within our personal real estate projects. I realized shortly after my children were born that my career life within the event business wasn’t fitting in with my life at home as a mom. I stepped away from the event business and decided to solely work on the new construction of our new home and be a mom. With that experience and with the support of my husband and close friends, I decided to make the interior design business a reality.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
BELYN provides a unique hands-on approach producing customized environments perfectly tailored to each client’s needs and style. All of my clients are assured a highly personal experience with an emphasis on collaboration and individualized service. The aesthetic of my projects revolves around functional, visual, and emotional appeal rather than settling on a particular ‘style’; as the goal is to create balance and connection between the client and their space and home.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Stay calm. There is always a solution.
I run into obstacles and challenges constantly in my work, and there is always a WAY to fix or get around those obstacles/challenges. When we stay calm when faced with adversity, we can find the solution with grace and ease.
