Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lugay.
Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out as an Art Student because I always loved to draw and paint. After getting my BA degree from Otis Art Collège in LA. I then decided to take classes in computer graphics. I fell in love with the computer and what you can do with it. Since then, I have worked as a graphic designer for companies doing everything from catalogs to promotional products. My next venture led me to working at a sign company which I enjoyed very much. I thought it would be a temporary thing until I got a job with a major design firm. But as I kept on working in signs, the more I fell in love with it. I gained many years of experience and learned so much as an employee which eventually led me to own my own shop here in Southern California. I am now in my 5th year as a business owner and I have enjoyed every bit of watching the company grow to what it is now. I don’t intend on stopping anytime soon. My goal is to see the company grow more every year, which we are. I have no regrets on taking the path I took to where I am now. I was afraid in the beginning to take a chance in opening my own business, but it eventually came to me that I can stay an Employee for the rest of my life or I can take the entrepreneur route and create a successful business. I realize that if you want to succeed in life, you have to take risks!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road I have taken in after school was a little bumpy because I started to question myself about taking the art route as a career. My father was an Ophthalmologists and my brothers went into the medical field as well so I started to wonder if I had made the right career decision. Later on, as I worked as a designer for other sign companies, my path started getting smoother and smoother. Since I have opened my own shop, it has been nothing but smooth sailing.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to people starting out is to be patient. Learn as much as you can and take your career choice very seriously, especially at a younger age. Start early. Do not be afraid of taking risks. All successful people have taken risks. Some have failed in the beginning but have succeeded in the end. The only regret I have was not taking the risk earlier in my life as a youngster. But it is all working out in the end.
