Meet Michael Girgis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Girgis.

Hi Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing songs after seeing Ed Sheeran in concert and thought to myself, “I wanna do this.” I taught myself how to play guitar, piano, and bass. The early days of my songwriting were pretty tough because the songs were horrible, but the more I wrote, the better I got. I eventually started to learn how to produce in Logic Pro. This was a game-changer for me. It gave me access to so many new sounds and vibes when writing a song. I finally released my first song in 2019 and have been releasing music ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d like to think of it as the 405 freeway. There are parts that are just terrible to drive on and there are some that feel super smooth. That’s basically been my artist journey so far. One of the biggest struggles has been finding out who I am as an artist. When I started, I wanted to be the next (insert artist name here). But as the journey has progressed, I’ve gotten more comfortable with who I am and it feels great.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist. I love writing songs that tell stories. Whether it’s about love, mental health, loss, etc., I just love telling stories. One thing I’m most proud of is my album that comes out in March. It has been a project I’ve worked on for the past two years and I think it’s some of my best work. Something that sets me apart from others is my experiences. No one else has had the experiences I’ve had and they’re unique to me and me alone.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One thing to realize when you’re starting out is that no one cares. No one is going to give you a chance unless you make them want to. You have to be a salesperson and make them want it.
