Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Erik.
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A young and ambitious Brooklyn Native, I started my acting journey after watching incredible show series like ‘The Wire,’ ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Game of Thrones,’ and many other groundbreaking television series that captivated audiences everywhere. I fell in love with the art of storytelling. I knew instantly that I wanted to be a part of something that moved people.
Acting has given me the ability to freely express myself as a creative. I began taking classes at BIH Studios (Break Into Hollywood Studios), an acting school in my home state of New York. BIH Studios not only opened doors for my acting career, they also gave me the ability to learn more about the industry. Soon after my classes at BIH Studios, I also began taking acting classes with acting coach, Tracey Moore. Since studying with Tracey, I have been able to meet and build a network with brilliant artists from all over that I have been lucky to learn from and collaborate with. In February 2020, I moved from Brooklyn, NY to Los Angeles, CA to pursue my art. I am currently represented by Avant Artists. I aspire to meet and learn from new creatives that share my same passion. I want to expand my portfolio and continue to build my network of artists.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle I’ve dealt with to date with regarding acting would be having my confidence tied to whether or not I booked a role. I would equate my abilities to whether or not I was cast for the part. This constant need for this type of validation would take a toll on me, as I am sure it does for many young actors. There are so many variables that are out of our control and if we let things like this eat at us, we will never feel adequate enough. My confidence now stems from my ability to always stay ready for whatever opportunity is thrown at me, the work I put in to prepare for roles and improve my craft, and my unique individual perspective.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of my athleticism, especially when it comes to basketball and football, but for the most part I am comfortable with all sports. I’m of Jamaican descent but can also speak Spanish fluently.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One memory that stands out is having the privilege to be featured in a Nickelodeon commercial.
