Meet Michael And Adelle McKinney of Glendora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael And Adelle McKinney.

Hi Michael and Adelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 1997 we began Promise Christian University as a religious exempt school under the auspices of World for Jesus International in the fellowship hall of the Covina Nazarene Church. In 2002 we were granted religious exempt status began teaching and training pastors with the help pastors from the Pastors Network of Southern California which at that time numbered almost 50-100 pastors all over San Gabriel Valley, San Diego and up to Lancaster. It was a wonderful time of networking and fellowship.

Our mission is to Equip Current and Future Global Christian Leaders with the Knowledge and Skills to Impact the 21st Century in Ministry and the Marketplace. Our first professors were from the network. Many had graduated from very prestigious schools like UCLA, Stanford, Trinity, Life, and other Bible schools.
In 2007 we established the Chaplains Training Certificate program. We have graduated over 90 men and women who have served in various chaplain ministries. In 2011 we started Promise Channel. In 2018 we started the Promise Governance Institute which holds special conferences once a year in California or out of State.

Apart from the school we have two interest 1) High Speed Transportation project 2) China Station a movie based on a true story written by Adelle McKinney from the
Memoirs of Dr Mike McKinney.
If we secure funding for these two projects you will see our train built all over the world and our movie on the big screen

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We love what we are doing. The main challenge for everyone right now is funding. We need funding to keep our tuition affordable. Pre-Covid we graduated around 45-60 students after covid average 25-35 students. Times are tough. It is a sacrifice but it is worth is to see what our graduates are accomplishing now in their chosen field of ministry or their work in the marketplace. No regrets.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In our adventures Ed spent 21years serving Civil Air patrol as part of the chaplain’s corp. That inspired our school to begin to challenge training in 2007 since then we have prepared around 70 students to work as a chaplain and but mostly volunteer work.

In 2017 we decided to start putting our school online and we worked diligently on that until 2020. When Covid came out. We were ready to be online.

We were the first in our area to teach chaplaincy. So now our school is mainly for Pastors and for Christian leaders in the marketplace affiliated with our denomination and the Pastors Network.

Since 1984 we have been proponents of high speed transportation and hopefully this is our year to get fully funded. Once we do that we can then fund more programs in University and provide scholarships. We believe that students should graduate debt free so that they can go into ministry without the financial burden of educational debt.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We credit our faithful Board of Trustees and World for Jesus International our covering ministry to provide the support spiritually and many times financial to make sure enough finances are there to take care of the minimal expenses we incur.

We also give God the glory because education was not the area of our expertise. But God send the academics to help us: Dr. William Schultz, pioneer of the charismatic movement, Dr. Jerry Howell, former Provost at Life Bible College back east; Dr. Steven Kirtley, USA Ret. (Col) who established our Chaplaincy Program. Our student who assisted us in the registration of the new school. We have so many to thank and our current staff: Dr. Eric Giorgio, Dr. Jackie Hornsby, Dr. Paul England, Dr. Larry Montgomery Dr. Rolando Mercader and Dr. Mila Mercader plus the leaders of World for Jesus International
