Meet Mia Scozzafave

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Scozzafave.

Mia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I feel blessed being an actress and It’s incredible how everything started for me. I graduated as a journalist, but my soul has always been that of a a free artist. I always felt that I would be an artist and eventually the universe found a way to manifest that for me. Early on, I was living behind a very promising TV Host career. I was then introduced to a friend of a friend that was living in Los Angeles and was an actor, to randomly meeting a lawyer that had a friend who was an agent and was open enough to work with me, everything fell into place. There are many reasons for me to be where I am, and it’s a mix of hard work, bumps, rejection, victories, luck, losses and decisions.

Some people call it destiny, some people called faith, I’m just not sure how I call it. To be honest, I do believe we make things happen in our lives, even if those are subconscious decisions. These decisions are so important to us because we can have so many different outcomes in our lives, not realizing we are responsible for them. It’s the Butterfly effect within complex systems. We can’t fully understand it but there is a correlation. That’s why it is so important, specially as an actor, to be aware and control your thoughts and emotions. These are our tools to work and they need to be sharp. So you have to keep up with our mental and physical health, be aware, as much as possible, of things you are manifesting in your journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had a lot of good moments and a lot of bad moments. I remember the first time I was live on TV. It’s was an turmoil of opposite of feelings. I was SO happy and proud when I saw “Marina Scozzafave” on the screen (this is my baptism name and how people called me when I started on TV) but at the same time, I sucked big time, because I had zero training and no experience. So I felt extremely sad like I was a failure. I guess after a few years of doing the show, I realized something very important in my life. Before you being excellent at something, you suck at something, and you need to learn, and practice, and practice some more and then much more. That’s how you get to be better and master your skills.

Besides that, being away from family, dealing with rejection on a daily basis, working very hard to find work (and not finding work, lol) are some of the difficulties that I am sure most of actors can relate to. It’s a very tough career and you really need to be crazy in love to stay in and succeed on it. And yet, I would not be able to be as half as happy if I had just settle for something else that it was easier to me. That’s how I know I made the right choice and keep making the right choice every day when I wake up.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Every actor is a different actor. There is no way that different people can act in the exactly same way, even if it’s some kind of impersonator. In fact, there is not even a way that the same actor can act in the same way, the same character. If you go to a theater play where the actors are portraying the same characters night after night, sometimes for over ten years, you will still have differences, even if subtle ones. That’s the nature of the craft and one of the reasons why it’s so fascinating to me. It’s alive and it will transform to a creation by itself where in every millisecond, it has a possibility of change.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“The harder I work, luckier I get” by Samuel Goldwyn.

I can’t define exactly the term “luck” because I believe there are underlying patterns as well defined actions that determine how everything happens. What I can say is a lot of things had to align in a certain way for me to be here today. I don’t fully understand them, but if that’s what is called good luck, I think I got it way more than “bad luck”.
