Meet Meagan Faison of The Black Bouquet LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Faison

Hi Meagan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Los Angeles has always been my dream city, and I moved here from North Carolina in 2017. It’s a totally different world from the South, but I love it here. I quickly learned LA is a place where you really have to put in the work, so that’s what I did. I’ve had some interesting side quest jobs, everything from hostess and concierge, to background actor and Santa helper. But I’ve also I’ve been blessed to have an amazing career and great jobs in news and media with companies like CBS, IHeartMedia and the NBA. I work a lot, but I make a point to enjoy all that LA has to offer! I love going to the beach, brunching with my friends, and discovering new events and activities. My love for exploring the city is what led me to start my first business, The Black Bouquet LA. It’s a media brand that brings together my love of storytelling, and my love of Black culture. It’s a new journey, and I’m excited to see where it will take me!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has definitely been no easing down this road. There have been twists and turns that have been chaotic, and stressful, and lonely and scary. Los Angeles is not for the weak. This city is crazy, especially if you’re in the entertainment industry. Figuring out jobs, apartments, traffic, friends and just navigating a new place by yourself can be a lot to deal with. But eventually, you learn and get better, and things that used to trip you up become easier to deal with. I think that’s where I’m at now, I’m mastering old challenges and I feel better equipped to take on new ones.

We’ve been impressed with The Black Bouquet LA , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m so excited about The Black Bouquet LA! Our mission is to give Black LA it’s flowers, and that’s where our name comes from. One thing I struggled with when I moved here seven years ago as a transplant from the South, was connecting with LA’s Black culture. It wasn’t because there’s a lack of culture, it’s just that as a person new to the city I didn’t have any resources to help me find Black spaces. My goal is for The Black Bouquet LA is to be that resource for other people in the city.

We create content to highlight the beauty of Black businesses, events and experiences around Los Angeles. There is so much going on within Black LA, and we want to help people to learn and connect. I come from working in news, so I love putting people on to new things, and being able to do that for my community is even better. Whether it’s a wellness event, day party, restaurant opening, art exhibit or festival, there’s always so many different things going on. I started the company at the end of April, and we have been blessed to grow a lot since then. I’m so happy that people are resonating with what we’re doing, and it’s definitely motivation to keep going and make this platform bigger than we ever imagined!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lessons I’ve learned have been to keep my cool, trust that everything is going to work out and enjoy the ride. LA is crazy, life is crazy, but we can only control so much. I’ve learned to have faith that God has an amazing plan for my life, so even though the storyline gets a little dramatic sometimes, I don’t ever want to focus on the bad more than I focus on the good. Because I have a lot of good in my life, and I’m so grateful for that.
