Meet Mckenzie Liautaud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckenzie Liautaud.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mckenzie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Becoming an accessories designer was a natural transition from working in the fashion industry. I started my career working on the editorial side & along the way met some really great clients that hired me to dress them. On many occasions , I could not find the right accessories I envisioned to complete my client’s looks & had to create them myself. In 2010, I launched a capsule collection of men’s accessories including bespoke bow ties and hand-finished pocket squares using recycled fabrics embellished withhardware, crystals and metal findings. After the success of the men’s collection, I introduced women’s jewelry. The first collection “Tribal Disruption” examined the relationship between tribal style & western design. The collection was launched at The Five Story — one of New York City’s preeminent retailers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Its been a pretty smooth road for the brand, since the launch we have been featured in notable publications such as The NY Times, Black Enterprise, W Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Elle, House Beautiful & People Magazine.

Struggles began once the pandemic hit – our wholesale orders were all canceled.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mckenzie Liautaud Jewelry – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
As a company, I am most proud of the Get Masked initiative we launched in the Spring. Get Masked is a local initiative in Brooklyn, NY created to combat the spread of COVID-19. For every set of five masks sold, I provide five masks directly to essential workers in my community — Since starting this initiative, I’ve been able to provide thousands of face masks to essential workers in New York City.

Building a conscious brand is very important to me, ethical sourcing & creating all of our designs locally sets us apart from other brands.

Each season is fused with International style – we draw inspiration from travels around the globe finding the heartbeat of each collection discovered along the way — from Dubai to Mykonos, Milan to Paris, and Mexico to Morocco.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are actually working on a couple of capsule collections set to launch in the Spring of 2021. I’m really excited to travel again , I miss Morocco & dying to visit Bali.
