Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Bruney
Hi Maya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in South London, UK where style is second nature and self-expression is everything. Studying design and performing arts at THE BRIT School – the same place that shaped talents like Amy Winehouse and Adele – put me in a world of creativity. But while fashion and design was always an interest, I had another ambition: becoming a professional athlete. Track and field became my focus, and that drive took me to winning the European U20 Championships and moving to Atlanta, where I trained alongside Olympians at the highest level.
Between intense training sessions and global competitions, I found myself drawn to a different kind of competition: personal style. That led to Track and Fits, a blog where I fuse sports and fashion, proving that athletes are fashion icons. Turns out, I’m not the only one who can see the connection between sports and style. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into a career, and I shifted from competing on the track to redefining it entirely.
Now based in LA, I style professional athletes and clients who aren’t just about following trends – they want to set them. Inspired by sports and European fashion, my looks combine functionality with rare, unforgettable pieces. Whether it’s a tunnel fit or a red carpet look, I make sure my clients step out with confidence and presence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Balancing the discipline of athletics with the creative freedom of fashion wasn’t always easy. The pressure to perform at the highest level in sports while pursuing an entirely different career path was intense.
Starting Track and Fits was a leap of faith, and building a following didn’t happen overnight. There were moments of doubt, especially when carving out a niche that didn’t really exist. It took time to build credibility and establish industry connections.
But over time, those challenges turned into valuable lessons. I learned to trust my instincts, stay true to my vision, and adapt when needed. While the road wasn’t always smooth, every obstacle taught me something new.
Through persistence, opportunities started to open up—from hosting community events with Red Bull to speaking on panel talks with On Running, where I shared my insights on the intersection of sports and style. It’s a reminder that with resilience and vision, the possibilities are endless.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for bridging the worlds of sports and fashion, showcasing athletes not just as competitors, but as fashion icons. What I’m most proud of is the impact my blog, @TrackandFits, has had on how athletes are perceived. Whether it’s a casual fit or a red carpet moment, I’ve used fashion to tell authentic stories. I’m also proud of the opportunities I’ve had to share my perspective through panel talks and collaborations with brands like Red Bull, Under Armour, and On Running. These moments allow me to not only showcase my work but also push the conversation around the intersection of fashion and sports.
When styling clients, I draw on my background in professional sports and European fashion. I approach styling with a focus on both functionality and aesthetics, always aiming for looks that are impactful and memorable, ensuring that every look tells a unique story that reflects my client’s personality and mood.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you’re a brand or organization, I’m open to collaborations that merge sports and fashion, whether it’s styling for campaigns, events, or content creation. I’m always interested in partnering with forward-thinking brands that understand the power of athlete-driven fashion content and want to make an impact.
For athletes, entertainers, or anyone looking to elevate their personal style, I offer bespoke styling services that go beyond just dressing a client—I work to define their image, creating looks that align with their personality, story, and public persona.
If you’re a creative, influencer, or anyone who shares a passion for the intersection of sports and style, I’d love to collaborate on projects, panel talks, or joint ventures to further explore and elevate this space.
