Meet Mattias Evangelista of Holocene Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mattias Evangelista

Hi Mattias, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a director and editor currently living and working in LA. I got my start in the film industry though action sports, my brother and I would make ski edits together and take turns film each other on the mountain and then we would come home and edit together in the evenings, we were totally self taught. I moved to LA in 2017 to pursue film full time and I was lucky to land an internship with Stept Studios. This turned into me working at Stept as an in house editor for three years. I consider those years my crash course in film making. Since 2021 I’ve transitioned to working freelance full time. I’m currently working on a couple shorts, a feature doc and a handful of commercial editing projects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I consider my self very lucky with how my career has played out. I’ve been very fortunate to meet close friends and collaborators every step of the way who have helped me and pushed me along my career path.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Holocene Inc?
Holocene was something that I started two years ago and I have slowly, but steadily been working to build it. It’s primarily a small post-production house but I’m starting to run more production through it as well. I’m also working to create merchandise, my hope is to build something that feels experiential rather than just business facing.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think taking risks is crucial for success and my career and in my life. Stagnation is something I actively try and avoid. I feel strongly that is much better to take risks and possibly fail, or not meet the expectations you’ve set for yourself, than repeat the same thing over and over again.
