Meet Mariu Cabral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariu Cabral.

Hi Mariu, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for having me! I’m happy to share my journey. I’m a certified holistic nutritionist specializing in gut health. I was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to the U.S. at 19 years old. After adopting a healthier lifestyle, I became passionate about educating myself on the benefits of food and lifestyle as medicine. I initially started this journey to lose weight gained from consuming excessive amounts of ultra-processed foods when I first immigrated to the States. Many people adopt a healthy lifestyle for similar reasons, but I soon noticed the positive effects of healthy foods on my mood, motivation, and mental health. This realization has kept me committed to a healthy lifestyle for about ten years now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While adopting a healthier lifestyle was a positive change for me, I faced unexpected challenges along the way. In my mid-twenties, I suffered from disruptive digestive issues such as bloating, constipation, and gas, despite engaging in healthy behaviors. I tried many things to resolve these symptoms, including taking probiotics, prebiotics, and increasing my fiber intake. However, my gut issues persisted. That’s when I realized I needed to take charge of my own health and study nutrition myself. In nutrition school, I learned valuable principles that helped me unlearn many misconceptions about healthy eating. I discovered that certain practices, such as consuming excessive amounts of vegetables, smoothies, and overexercising, can actually be detrimental to gut health, this may sound counterintuitive because we are bombarded with information on how these practices are good for your health. I took a holistic approach to health and began using food to heal my own gut symptoms. Today, as a certified nutritionist (NTP), I help women and men heal their guts using a food-first approach. I work with clients suffering from a variety of gut issues, ranging from IBS symptoms to chronic and autoimmune conditions such as Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and Hashimoto’s.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Certainly, I am a certified holistic nutritionist who specializes in gut health, and I take a unique approach to helping my clients heal from their gut issues. What sets me apart from others is that I not only focus on nutrition but also on lifestyle management, relationships, and time management, which I believe are all critical components of overall health and well-being.

Additionally, as a woman and Latina, I bring a unique perspective to my practice that allows me to connect with my clients on a deeper level. Having suffered from gut issues myself, I understand the struggles that come with digestive problems, and I use my personal experience to help guide my clients towards the right solutions for their unique needs.

Rather than offering quick fixes or band-aid solutions, I work with my clients to create long-term habits that will promote healing and sustainability for a lifetime. By doing so, my clients not only experience improvements in their gut health, but also save on future medical bills by addressing the root cause of their health concerns.

Overall, I believe that my holistic approach, personal experience, and commitment to sustainable solutions make me stand out from other nutritionists and health professionals in the field.
