Hi Marcus , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our journey began as college athletic sweethearts who shared not only a love for sports but also a deep passion for good food. We both worked in the service industry during those years, learning the ins and outs of what makes a dining experience memorable. However, it wasn’t long before we realized that we wanted something more—a business of our own where we could pour our hearts into every dish.
We noticed a gap in the already saturated taco scene: a need for quality, love-infused food that went beyond the usual offerings. With that in mind, we decided to stay true to our roots, focusing on honest, house-curated recipes and the freshest tortillas made on-site, no matter the size of the event. This commitment to quality has allowed us to quietly but steadily make our mark.
Our brand and name are deeply personal. They come from our beloved English Bulldog, Buddha, who we knew from the start he deserved a legacy. His spirit and our shared passion for food led to the creation of Buddha Boy Gourmet. Today, we’re proud to say that Buddha’s legacy lives on in every bite we serve, as we continue to spread love and flavor throughout the community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where we are now has certainly had its share of bumps and curves. Just like in life, no journey is perfect, and ours has been no exception. We’ve had to navigate the complexities of running a business, from mastering quarterly taxes to managing expansion and, perhaps most dauntingly, learning how to feed 800 people for a single lunch service.
Initially, we envisioned serving smaller family events, but the demand for our food quickly grew. Now, we find ourselves catering for a wide array of events, from standard weekend festivities to high-profile events. We’ve even been passed from one production company to another, with the honor of serving at events like Jimmy Kimmel’s 20th anniversary.
It’s surreal at times to realize the level of stress and responsibility we manage, whether it’s a birthday party, baby shower, wedding, or a meal on set. The learning curve has been steep, but we’ve kept both hands on the wheel, navigating each challenge as it comes.

Our business, Buddha Boy Gourmet LLC, is often known by the name Buddha Boy Tacos, but our mission goes far beyond just tacos. We are a gourmet catering service dedicated to shattering your expectations of what a taco or catering service can deliver.
We understand the oversaturation in the market, with many taquizas offering the same flavor profiles. That’s why our goal is to provide a unique and individualized experience that pays homage to our authentic Mexican and multicultural roots. Flavor development is our top priority, and we take pride in ensuring that every item we serve can stand alone as a showstopper.
One of the things that truly sets us apart is our no-compromise approach to hand-pressed tortillas. This dedication is often the first thing people talk about when they experience our food—either that or the fact that someone smelled our grilled meats from a block away! What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson we’ve learned along this journey is the value of keeping business stress separate from our personal relationship. Building an empire with your significant other is rewarding, but it can also be challenging. We’ve realized that no matter how intense things get, it’s crucial to preserve the dynamic that brought us together in the first place.
With what often feels like a nine-day work week, there’s nothing more important than carving out quality time to enjoy each other’s company and spend time with our daughter, Indika. Keeping that balance has been essential to both our personal and professional success.
