Meet Malique Davis of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malique Davis

Hi Malique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Compton, CA. My stage name is Davi$ and my brand is called NOTHING LESS THAN REAL. I am an independent artist, producer, and designer. I started rapping at the age of 17, produced my first beat at 18, and I became an official producer before the age of 21, thanks to REAL MUSIC. Overtime, I learned the ins and outs of the game and eventually wanted to innovate my creativity. Along the way I’ve collaborated with artists like The Real Lil Malcom, Lito Picasso, LT Wigglez, Burnett Smith Music, ALL GOLD FAMILY, 845 Fresh, Cali5ive, Plenty N’ Pretty, and the up and coming CAMP MARTIANS. Another group I definitely can’t forget is the STREET BILLIONAIRES music group in Nigeria. I’ve made many friends along the way and most of them helped me get through some of the darkest times of my life and I appreciate them dearly for it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been everything but smooth. However, the journey was worth it. The biggest struggle was separating my business from my personal life and decisions.
Another challenge was overcoming
homelessness and maintaining my
mental health. With every great journey comes rough patches. Not everyone was on the same page and there was friction at times. Sometimes when I knew I did my best, things got dramatically worst. No matter how bad I wanted to throw in the towel, I still yet again chose to trust my process. When I finally hit that low point, I met a lot of influential people and I can’t lie, I found myself fully motivated, making incredible leaps with my creativity. I eventually found myself on quite the rollercoaster for the next few years. But that’s a story for another time. Just look out for my interviews in the future!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have my own website and brand as well as my own music. What sets me apart from everyone is the fact I’m not in competition with anyone or anything besides myself. I understand that my brand is only as great as its owner and I make great strides towards improving every day. I will be collaborating and networking more in the near future.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I can see myself hosting year round Pop-up tours around the country as well as overseas. I do believe that I and those I associate with have some big plans expanding and touring as I expand across venues. I definitely believe that REAL MUSIC, ALL GOLD FAMILY, and CAMP MARTIAN have definitely set an entirely new tone for the world to tune into. I just can’t speak entirely on these surprises just yet. Once you’ve witnessed the creativity at work, it’s hard to get unhooked.
