Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Uribe.
Hi Luis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I arrived to the United States from Michoacán, Mexico, at just 12 years old, with nothing more than a pocket full of dreams and a heart full of determination. The journey wasn’t easy — I left behind the familiar rhythms of my hometown and stepped into a world where the language was foreign, the pace was fast, and the odds were stacked high. But I didn’t come to watch life happen. I came to build it.
Initially, it was a learning curve because everything was strange, and having to start school in a foreign place with no friends and not knowing the language was not easy at all, but I had the support of both my parents and the mentorship of my older brothers. My goal was to listen, observe, and teach myself the trade in a country where formal schooling was not an option for me but hard work was the language I spoke fluently. I quickly learned my calling and it was for sure landscaping . I learned the ins and outs — not from textbooks, but from hands-on labor and sheer perseverance.
By my early 20s, I began by building a landscape maintenance company with my dad. Followed by marriage at age 21. By age 25 I had 3 children and bigger dreams that I wanted to become a reality alongside my beautiful and talented wife. Eventually, in 2006 became a licensed landscape contractor, founding what would become a beloved and respected family business: A Greener Tomorrow Landscaping Inc.
What set me apart wasn’t just my skills — it was the vision. I didn’t just see “yards.” I saw possibilities. Dry dirt lots became lush courtyards. Neglected gardens became sanctuaries. Every space touched carried my signature: art, craftsmanship, and quiet pride.
I didn’t just create landscapes. I have built a life, a legacy, and a business that has supported my family and inspired a new generation — including my own now adult children — to believe in the power of persistence and purpose. My journey is a living testament to what’s possible when roots run deep, and dreams run even deeper.
From Michoacán to Culver City — Luis Uribe turned hope into heritage, and labor into legacy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While building this business, I was also raising a family. That meant being strong even when I was tired. Providing when I was unsure how. Smiling for my kids when I was worried about the next jobsite. It’s a balance no one trains you for — you just learn as you go.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been a landscape contractor in Los Angeles for over 30 years. I started my company, A Greener Tomorrow Landscaping Inc., from the ground up — no investors, no shortcuts, just my tools, my hands, and a deep respect for the work.
What I do is simple but not easy: I transform outdoor spaces. We specialize in everything from drought-tolerant gardens and irrigation systems to custom hardscape, grading, and large-scale planting. I’ve worked on homes, apartment buildings, schools, businesses — you name it. If it has soil, I’ve probably shaped it.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve built this business with integrity and consistency. I didn’t come from money or education. I came from Michoacán, Mexico, at the age of 12, a little boy with no English and no idea how far hard work could take me. I learned by doing — watching, listening, making mistakes, and learning from them. Every job was a lesson.
What sets me apart? I care. I care about doing things right, about building landscapes that last, and about showing up when I say I will. I don’t cut corners. I believe in being honest with my clients, paying my crew fairly, and leaving behind a job that we can all be proud of.
In this trade, your reputation is everything. And after three decades in this business, I’m proud to say my name and my company have made it!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is the opportunity. Culver City and Los Angeles gave me the chance to build something from nothing. I came here as a kid from Michoacán with no English, and no connections — just a desire to work and a dream to grow. This city opened its doors. I was able to start a business, raise a family, and serve so many wonderful clients from all walks of life. The diversity, the weather, the culture — there’s no place like it. Every neighborhood has its own flavor, and I’ve had the privilege to work in many of them.
But what I like least is how often the people who work the hardest — especially in the trades — are the ones who get overlooked. There’s not always enough respect for the men and women who build this city from the ground up. Landscapers, gardeners, construction crews — we’re the backbone of these beautiful homes and parks, yet sometimes we’re treated like we’re disposable or invisible. I’d like to see more value placed on skilled labor and the immigrant hands that help shape these cities every single day.
