Meet Lucila V. Ramirez of Lavish B Los Angeles in Lynwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucila V. Ramirez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
So my love story with fashion started when I was a pre-teen. I was born and raised in Highland Park by my parents who migrated to the United States from Mexico and Nicaragua. My passion for textiles and the fashion industry sparked when my father decided to open up a trims and accessories business in Highland Park. I always admired him for owning his own business but never thought I would follow in his footsteps. As a young girl, I was always at his warehouse playing with different trims, like laces, buttons, zippers, you name it. I always enjoyed playing with the samples and eventually took some home. I would add the different lace trims to my clothes to create different styles because I was too shy to ask my parents for the latest fashions.

Once I hit high school, my parents decided to enroll me into a specialized magnet high school where they focused on fashion. There I learned the fundamentals of being a fashion designer. I truly loved every minute of it, but I soon realized I was not ready for the competitiveness aspect of it. Before graduating, I decided to change my career and enter into the medical field and studied to become a nurse. Although I was very focused in becoming a nurse, I still had a passion for designing and sewing on my free time. My flair for fashion was always a hobby and after the birth of my daughter, I realized my career in the medical field would soon lead me to sacrifice time with her and my family. So that is when I decided to start my own clothing brand, and that is how Lavish B Los Angeles was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth ride? I believe there will always be challenges in having and running a business. Some of my struggles have included time management, during the time I started Lavish B I had my first baby. So I am a first time parent, having to balance motherhood along the side of a business has not been easy but I’ve managed to do so and continue to improve my strategies. As a first-time business owner, there has been lots of trials and errors. Finding my target audience, not making sales goals, re-strategizing. Oh I can’t forget, I started Lavish B five months before the pandemic. Lavish B Los Angeles started as event attire, styles that were meant for going out at night. When the pandemic hit, I struggled at first. All my vendors were closed or were limiting in person orders. I was stuck with all these styles that people did not need anymore. I had to pivot alongside my brand and change my target market. No one was going out, so I changed my brand to carry more casual, trendy apparel vs. nighttime club styles. I believe struggles and challenges will always be part of having a business it’s how you handle those problems and find your solutions that will determine whether you succeed or not.
