Today we’d like to introduce you to the super fly Andrea Vlaovich.
Andrea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Citing an infinite passion for makeup artistry as my driving force, I graduated from MKC Beauty Academy (of Los Angeles) where I was able to refine my technical skills. My ability to provide creative and aesthetically pleasing looks through the medium of fine makeup has allowed me to press forward as a thriving and talented artist.
While taking influence from all forms of art and fashion I have been able to work in all styles without being confined to one particular field. My creative vision and skilled hand have allowed myself to work in the realms of high fashion, beauty, print and bridal where my talent translates seamlessly throughout all styles.
Has it been a smooth road?
To be honest, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I became a professional makeup artist back in 2009, 8 years ago and I really didn’t see a huge cash flow until 2013.. so that in itself can tell you a little bit… I was still working in retail and doing side jobs whenever they came about. I remember doing hair and make up for a company which only paid me $100 a shoot to do 2 models and 12 hour days, doing free test shoots (hoping I would see the pictures), doing free jobs for people thinking they would eventually get me somewhere someday. But I didn’t really let it hinder me, I just loved what I did.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up… I was always a little shy but broke out of my shell when it was time to go to high school. I always had a love for music and going to shows. I was a part of that “scene” back in high school, dyed my hair, had a crazy amount of piercings, had my first tattoo when I was sixteen.. Definitely thought my parents were going to disown me at one point. But they were always supportive. Which I’m forever grateful for.
Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
This is a hard one, had many favorite memories. But I would say the time spent with my grandfather, my grandparents basically raised me from the time I grew up to the time I learned how to drive. My parents were always working so after school was always spent at their house which I never minded.
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
My plans for the future are to keep growing, keep striving for more. I forget sometimes that I’m still young that I have a lot of years ahead of me but I don’t think I’ll ever be content with just settling for something. If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life they say!
