Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsy Watson.
Chelsy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I loved the punk rock scene in LA and being a hairstylist. I could dress/look/hair and set my own hours to the scene. I was lucky, my first Hair experience was at Allen Edwards. An extremely competitive salon of Los Angeles with an amazing assistant and stylist educational program. I got to work from Beverly Hills,Encino to Newport beach with my base being Long Beach. Great experience!! The career has been great to me and education is a HUGE part of my experience today with The Wella Studio in Woodland Hills being a Sebastian Ambassador and Wella Master Color Expert. Now being an Independent Contractor. I am an amateur photographer and do all my own shoots/hair, sometimes makeup too. I design websites and do all the social media for Pacific Coast Style. I imagine one day owning my own 2700 sq ft Salon with an extensive assistant/new stylist program to help introduce into our industry respectful, dignified, educated, knowledable, confident stylists.
Has it been a smooth road?
How would you know what is so fun and fantastic without some struggles. Its a given. I count my blessings all the time How Lucky I have been in all aspects of life.
What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
My hope is the larger Corporations will merge and will offer the newly licensed hairdressers with educational/startup programs to teach Decorum/Professionalism.
Has there been a particular challenge that you’ve faced over the years?
I would call them opportunities! I have been in the business 32 years in a suburban environment. I have experienced moist employers closing shop and becoming independent contracted salons. Therefore, stylist are on their own and the team work is fading. I have become fierce in finding this camaraderie in the shop. I am my own force.
Let’s change gears – is there any advice you’d like to give?
Please, Please,Please find a salon with assistant programs to get you started. Think of it like graduating high school and going to college.

From my modeling days 30 years ago, through 6 children and now 5 grandchildren, Chelsy has given me 100% satisfaction as my only hair stylist. I won’t let anyone else touch my hair. Chelsy is professional through and through and I cannot recommend her enough. Want a pro who knows exactly what she is doing and will never promise what she cannot deliver? Chelsy is the one and only. Out of Allen Edwards magical ‘organized mess’ salon emerged this shining star. She is the best.

Chelsy has cut/colored my hair since 2002 and thanks to her, it’s healthy and always looks fantastic. One of the things I most appreciate about Chelsy, in addition to her talent with hair, is how professionally she treats my time. Appointments begin on time, which I value highly.
Thanks Chelsy–you’re the best!
