Meet Lizette Ludwig of Manhattan Dermatology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizette Ludwig.

Lizette, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From a young age, I was intrigued by beauty and skin care. I guess you can say, this is something I inherited from my mom. I remember very early on, I would go into my mom’s makeup drawer and play with anything I could get my hands on! From lipsticks, eye shadows, to lash curlers and expensive facial creams- you name it, and I had my hands in it! Im sure my mom wasn’t thrilled about it, but none the less it was fun memory I have of my childhood

My parents encouraged me early on to take up a career in the medical field which was not my first choice, as I had plans to become a professional makeup artist. I am so thankful today that I took my parents advice and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree as a Registered Nurse. As a new graduate, jobs were limited, so I began my career on a surgical floor at our local hospital.

I’ve always loved helping others, but I knew early on that working in a hospital setting was not for me. I’ve always been a creative person and using my creativity has always been important to me. It wasn’t until two years into working on the surgical floor that I became familiar with the medical aesthetic world. It was life-changing, and I knew then it was my calling- I loved it!

Today and every day, I’m so grateful for our growing aesthetic community, it really has allowed me to apply my medical skills and use my creativity as well. It’s a beautiful thing when your passion and career come together. I can hardly believe I have been a Registered Nurse for 14 years and have spent 12 years specializing in Aesthetic Medicine.

About two years ago, I decided start an Instagram page, focusing on skincare and aesthetic procedures. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned about myself and others through this social platform! A few months ago I decided to take it a step further and curate my own skin care blog. On my blog, you will find my favorite skin care treatments, beauty tips and so much more.

My goal is to inspire others to take better care of their skin with a simple, yet, effective approach. I truly believe if we maintain our skin quality with clinically proven skincare and aesthetic skincare treatments, then we can do less of the more invasive treatments.

Has it been a smooth road?
I feel as if when you really want something, no matter how hard it is to accomplish, you can always find a way. My parents taught me early on, to work hard for my goals. I don’t believe that things just happen by coincidence. Working hard pays off! When I think back to some of my early struggles, Nursing School is the first that comes to mind.

I was the student who had to study hard to get good grades, it didn’t come easy for me. I remember lots of sleepless nights studying and having to wake up at the crack of dawn to get to the clinic on time. While in Nursing School, I had a part-time job as a student worker at Harbor UCLA. My parents thought it was important for me to have a job while in school. I won’t lie- It was tough!

As an adult, my struggles are different, and my priorities have changed. First and foremost, I’m a wife and mother of two boys. Now more than ever, finding the work-life balance is so important to me. I get asked on a daily basis, how I balance work and family and the truth is, I don’t know how I do it on most days.

Each day as a working mom is unpredictable, some days are filled with joy and laughter, and others are full of tears and frustration. I don’t know if I will ever achieve the perfect balance between work and family, but I do know I will always continue to try and learn from other working moms I admire.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a Registered Nurse specializing in conservative aesthetic procedures. My beauty philosophy and what sets me aside from others is that I believe in enhancing our own natural beauty by keeping things soft and natural. I live by the phrase “less is more.”

I believe we are all beautiful and unique in our own way, therefore all of my consultations are customized for each and every one of my patients. I currently work at Manhattan Dermatology in Manhattan Beach, CA, alongside Dr. Ashley Magovern. I have been with the practice since the day we opened our doors in 2010.

I’m excited to announce that we are currently expanding and working on a new addition to the practice, Manhattan Aesthetics. Manhattan Aesthetics will solely focus on Aesthetic procedures with more of a luxury feel for our patients. I am so excited to share this space with all of our new and existing patients!

What were you like growing up?
I always remember my childhood as being a happy one, I was so lucky and blessed to have an amazing and supportive family. According to my mom, I was always a very happy little girl who loved to play dress up.

What I remember about my younger self is being very mature for my age and how much I loved listening to adult conversation. My hobbies included playing the piano and cheerleading. I was also a very determined little girl and a bit of a perfectionist. I guess you could say I was a bit of an old soul.
