Meet Linus Lau of Lau Zoo Tees in West LA/ Brentwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linus Lau.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started out as a mom-and-pop store in NorCal. In a little town called Sunnyvale. We did a lot of t-shirt shows at farmer’s markets, fairs and college multicultural events. Before Twitter and Instagram we already had a pretty substantial grassroots following so we decided to open our online store.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges are common among vendors in this industry. Fashion trends change. There are a lot of smart people out there doing very similar things so being unique is the toughest part. But we love to collaborate with other street-artists and graphic designers and to see an idea grow. I think the key is to ride the challenge and treat it as a benefit.

Please tell us about Lau Zoo Tees.
Our shirts are focussed on foodie humor and puns – just stuff that folks have told us they wanted to wear on a shirt. We’ve collaborated with pubs, restaurants and theatre groups. And we feature art from local artists from all over, like Poland, Japan, and the Philippines.

Pricing:

  • Right now we are having a holiday sale, with some shirts just $10!
