Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Pitts.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I supposed I was always in the business of acting, so to speak. I was a competitive figure skater from the age of four. I always liked and respected the competition, but what I loved was winning. Soon after college, I started acting and modeling. Loved that too, appearing in a host of films, T.V. shows and commercials. I quickly moved on as an onset acting coach. I was asked by the parent of an extra to coach her two daughters off set. I did from my dining room table, cultivating their skills and talents. I submitted them to tops agents. They were both signed on their very first interview. Well, if that didn’t jump start my teaching career, nothing would. I rented a small studio that I found on Craigslist. It had all the makings of an old-time theatre. The stage, lights, seats. I got some business cards, passed out flyers in the mall and Limelight Acting Studio was born. Soon my Saturday classes were feeling and feeling out the whole day. Still unsure, I kept my coaching and acting jobs onset as a security blanket. I was soon signing students left and right. Senior Citizens, kids, housewives, firefighters… WOW, I needed a larger office.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. First, I had to find the best location. I had to sell my business to potential clients of all age groups. There were marketing strategies to consider while working within a very tight budget and a staff of one…me. I found there was an art to dealing with different personalities and of course the occasional stage parent.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Limelight Acting Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I teach acting and modeling in both group settings and one on one. I tell my students the truth about the business, not the fairytale. I coordinate photo shoots, prepare cover letters and resumes. I speak of other careers behind the camera as well. I go further than just handing out scripts. I guide their presence, lead them through the agent/audition process. They learn exactly what to expect and is expected of them when on set. I’m always proud when an agent compliments my student’s submissions or when I hear back how professional they were on set.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like best the arts and of course the motion picture industry. Can’t beat the weather here and the diverse cultures. The food isn’t bad either.
Least – prices of just about everything, earthquakes, traffic.
As you can see the good outweighs the bad.
