Today we’d like to introduce you to Laney LA, INC.

Anthony and Krista Laney launched Laney LA in 2014 as co-founders and partners, with the vision of creating a new type of architecture practice. It all started in Los Angeles when they first met as architecture students at USC. Post-graduation, they worked for a variety of firms both inside and outside Los Angeles before choosing to launch their own practice in the city of Hawthorne.

A strategic choice, Hawthorne represented the founders’ roots as South Bay natives and as an up and coming hub of design, industry, technology, and art. No longer a city that is just about aerospace, it has become home for the next generation of creatives. Because of Hawthorne’s proximity to the beach cities, Laney LA has access to the athletes and families that compose their primary clientele along with design talent from the west side cities of Los Angeles.

Driven by their commitment to a healthy studio culture and a passion for design, Laney LA strives to set a new standard for custom homes and a new reputation for creativity in the city of Hawthorne. What started as a husband-wife team, contained within a tiny garage, has now grown to a thriving staff of twelve who bring culture and expertise from around the world to Laney LA’s 50 projects. The Laney LA studio is a place of creativity and experimentation.

Please tell us about your art.
Our studio is committed to a visually rich design process. We leverage cutting-edge technology to explore multiple design solutions, in an effort to discover the most delightful and intelligent strategy. Every home is crafted digitally as a highly detailed 3D model, allowing our clients to virtually explore the design, before construction even begins. This exciting, fast-paced process is often the highlight of our client’s experience, but it is only one of the ways in which we seek to delight them.

We believe in championing the dreams of our South Bay clients, by creating spaces that celebrate their unique lifestyle, and elevate the home as an art form. Our clients are the heroes of the story, and we draw inspiration from them and from our international travels abroad. Finally, we believe in the power of the creative process, as a platform to touch people’s lives. Laney LA is a boutique architecture studio, dedicated to bringing world-class design services to the families of the South Bay.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
One of the biggest challenges that we have seen is the balance between art and scale. How does an artist make both prolific and inspired art? Architecture faces the challenge of either doing a limited amount of projects or creating a studio that has the capacity to do more than a single architectural masterpiece. It is a familiar tension and one that is difficult to resolve.

On a personal level, many young studios face the challenge of creating a body of work while operating within the limitations ( and timeline) that architecture brings. It is an innately slow process, and it takes patience to both build a brand and a portfolio with projects that are slowly approaching completion.
