Meet Lagen of Mulier Fortis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lagen.

Hi Lagen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated from college in 2009, right in the midst of the financial crisis, a tough time to break into the finance world, which had been my focus up to that point. My original plan was to move to New York and start my career in finance, but with jobs scarce, I pivoted and began applying outside my field. That’s how I landed at FOX Sports. I’ll admit, working in sports wasn’t something I had planned or even dreamed about, but sometimes life takes you in unexpected directions.

What started as an entry-level role at FOX Sports turned into a 11 year career. I worked primarily in business development and sales, eventually collaborating across all 21st Century FOX companies. I had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s biggest brands, bringing them into the FOX portfolio. When Disney acquired most of FOX’s assets, I had just welcomed my first child, and I realized it was time for a new chapter.

I then joined Misfits Gaming Group as Chief Commercial Officer. Moving from a Fortune 500 company to a startup was both exhilarating and challenging. I learned more in those four years than I could have imagined, but with two young kids and constant travel, I eventually realized I needed a better balance for my family.

That led me to Silver Tribe Media, a small sports media company in Los Angeles, where I served as Chief Revenue Officer. Although my time there was brief, it gave me clarity about what I wanted next in my career.

In 2024, I co-founded Mulier Fortis Consulting with a former FOX Sports colleague. Our firm is inspired by the spirit of the “Strong Woman” resilient, wise, and determined. We’re dedicated to providing strategic guidance and transformative solutions, helping organizations and individuals navigate challenges and achieve sustainable growth. Founding my own company has been one of my proudest achievements, and I’m excited for what the future holds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in life is ever truly smooth, and I’ve certainly faced my share of challenges along the way. I’ve always tried to approach setbacks with the mindset that everything happens for a reason, and that something better is often waiting just around the corner. When Disney began acquiring FOX, I’ll admit I was initially anxious and uncertain about which direction to take. Looking back, though, moving on to the next chapter turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made, both personally and professionally.

Another challenge that stands out is my brief tenure at Silver Tribe Media. Up until that point, I had enjoyed long, stable runs at every company I’d worked for, so I was initially disappointed in myself for not staying longer. However, I’ve come to see that experience as a turning point. The silver lining was that it ultimately led me to start my own company, an opportunity I might never have pursued otherwise. Sometimes, the bumps in the road are what set us on the path we’re truly meant to follow.

How do you think about happiness?
What truly makes me happy is finding purpose and growth in both my professional and personal life. Looking back, the journey from an unexpected start at FOX Sports to building my own company, Mulier Fortis, has shown me that happiness comes from embracing change and creating opportunities.

The decision to prioritize being more present for my kids, which led me to seek opportunities in Los Angeles and ultimately to start my own company, underscores this. It’s about finding that crucial balance where I can pursue ambitious career goals while also being there for the people who matter most.

Ultimately, happiness for me is about resilience, continuous evolution, and aligning my work with my values, all while cherishing the moments with my family.
