Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Joseph.
Sam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was a child I use to spend summers with my grandparents and uncle in Alexandria Egypt where my uncle had a photography studio. This is where I learned and developed my passion for capturing images and the energy of moments in time; which is the essence of photography. Undergrad I studied at cal state Northridge after graduation I started working in the motocross industry designing race outfits and packaging and helping with advertising photography, went back to do some graduate studies at the art center and moved into automotive racing.
Now I work mainly in the off-road industry. Along with freelance projects I other sectors as needed.
I also realize that what I do is an absolute grace and blessing. Also I do enjoy doing pro bono and volunteer work, to help and give back. I believe it’s a great way to grow as a person and with my creative work.
Has it been a smooth road?
Challenges are always present, and in dealing with them head on I’ve found that that’s where I grow the most. It also helps me with developing creative ways that at times are innovative for me and my work.
When you look back, what are you most proud of?
That’s a very interesting question… On one hand, it seems that most often I Steve to be proud of what I do and accomplish! However, I also am a firm believer that pride leads to destruction and failure when perceived in a selfish manner. What I mean by that is that being proud is a positive thing when it’s the result of service to the betterment of others and worthy causes. The following quote perfectly illustrates it:
“I slept and dreamt that life was a joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was a joy.” — Rabindranath Tagore
Every story has ups and downs. What were some of the downs others might not be aware of?
I believe struggles and challenges are a big part of life…and an even bigger part of developing one’s skills and talents. As we Strive to rise in facing and overcoming a struggle or a challenge; our abilities and skills are honed and sharpened. Like a goldsmith heating ore to burn off the impurities yielding pure gold.
Is there something we can do as a city to improve the outlook for professionals like you?
You know I can only answer that question with bias…
I say that to say that I Love LA!!!
It’s one of the greatest places on this planet.
So many places, things, people etc. have inspired me in this town. From the beaches to the weather; the sunsets to the sunrises, the city, the country, the deserts and the mountains!!! We have it all out here
There’s a definite mystical energy that I know I feed off and am inspired by living out here. I hope that answer wasn’t too self-centered.
