Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Rojo .
Sandra , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My interest in Fashion began in high school. I was a part of fashion clubs and classes, participated in fashion shows, and learned the basics of sewing and garment production. I then attended FIDM where I was blessed with multiple opportunities in the fashion industry, one being a celebrity wardrobe stylist. I graduated with honors and continued on to have my own clothing line and continued working in the industry. Now I am in the Bridal aspect of it all and am loving it!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been quite a journey. It hasn’t always come easy, work wise. It’s a tough industry to be in. If you don’t hustle day and night, you won’t make it. I do everything out of my home. I used every last dollar I could when I first started, to buy an industrial sewing machine, heat press, and silk screen machines.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Now that I am in the Bridal Industry, and have found that I really love it. I want to work towards creating and opening a Bridal Boutique with One-Of-A-Kind gowns, fitting anyone’s price range but still getting a quality product. I have a great connection with all of my clients, and love giving them a beautiful experience and making sure they feel amazing no matter what. So that’s something I want to see through my future.
Let’s explore some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way. What was the most difficult part of your career so far?
I would say the hardest time I’ve had in my career is when I was working with Kanye West, and I was really getting to where I wanted to be in my life work-wise. I was styling and meeting amazing people in the industry. I for whatever reason wasn’t feeling fulfilled and unsure of what I really wanted to become in life, during a time that I was going through a lot of personal issues, and I stepped away from styling for a while. With me doing that, I fit the quote ‘one day you’re in, and the next you’re out.’ It became very hard for me to get myself back to where I was in my career but being away from it really made me realize that it was my passion and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. So since that, I’ve been doing what I can to just make sure I can stay somewhat relevant in the styling world.
Are there days when you feel like you’ve done everything you wanted to, careerwise – the “I’ve made it” kind of moments?
I feel that way a few times, when I have people that I don’t know, tell me that they have heard of the things I’ve accomplished and that I’m inspiring. Loved ones always remind me, when I do start to doubt myself, that I am who I am for a reason and I will be great no matter what. In the most humble sense, of course.
