Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyra Jackson.
Hi Kyra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As an LA native, hustling has always been a part of who I am. I’ve long dreamed of being an entrepreneur and often shared that vision with my parents. Entrepreneurship has always been part of my story, even if I didn’t yet know where to apply it. During undergrad, I explored paths that I thought would bring me closer to that goal, even when the path wasn’t clear. I attended the illustrious Clark Atlanta University, where the motto, “I’ll Find a Way or Make One,” reinforced the go-getter in me and inspired me to pursue opportunities that felt aligned with my ambitions.
God placed the idea of a candle business on my heart, but I was putting myself through school and didn’t yet have the time or resources to pursue it fully. I set the dream aside and focused on building my career in marketing. Even as I grew professionally and leaned into what “felt right,” I still felt a quiet sense that there was more I was meant to do.
A few years later, during a season when I was shutting down a failed tech startup, that calling resurfaced. Unsure of my next step, I prayed and asked God to make it clear and plain if this business was truly for me. The very next day, that prayer was answered. I hit the ground running and haven’t looked back.
Nearly a year into building my candle company, I’m still learning, refining formulas, evolving my strategy, and discovering what works best for me. I’ve shown up in real life through pop-ups like Favored Flea and other small markets throughout West LA, South LA, and the Valley. During a break from social marketing, I intentionally focused on connecting with customers face-to-face, which helped me build a loyal community and grow the business through meaningful relationships and word of mouth.
I’m proud of the brand I’ve created and the intention behind it: dedicating this business to God and transforming something as simple as lighting a candle into a moment of stillness, warmth, and meaning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m naturally more of a creative and visionary than a logistics- or operations-focused person, so the business side has been a steep learning curve. I’ve never been drawn to math or science, and truly understanding what it takes to make a candle, from formulas to costs to consistency, has required me to be honest with myself and stretch in new ways.
Perfectionism has also been a challenge. Learning not to be overly hard on myself and accepting that growth requires experimentation has been my biggest challenge.
Running a business on your own means wearing every hat: logistics, operations, marketing, PR, and everything in between. Toward the end of 2025, I intentionally stepped back to reset, reassess my strategy, and refine both my social marketing and my candle formulas. Giving myself permission to pivot, learn, and solve problems publicly hasn’t been easy, but it’s been necessary; and ultimately, it’s helped me grow stronger as both a founder and a creative.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about B.stɪl Candle Co ?
At B.stɪl, we embrace God’s intention to cultivate peace in the midst of life’s rhythms. We believe in the beauty of slowing down, finding joy in everyday moments. I create elevated candles designed to transform everyday moments into intentional experiences, inviting warmth, comfort, and presence into the spaces we inhabit. Each candle is thoughtfully developed with clean ingredients, refined scent profiles, and a deep consideration for how a space feels, not just how it smells.
What sets my brand apart is its foundation. Every decision, from sourcing and formulation to design and storytelling, is made with care and reverence, honoring the idea that something as simple as lighting a candle can become an act of reflection and grounding.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of creating a premium brand that doesn’t rush, shout, or follow trends, but instead invites people to slow down. In under a year, I’ve built a brand that feels aligned, thoughtful, and deeply personal. I want readers to know that my candles are more than home fragrance; they are an invitation to pause, be present, and create space for stillness in a world that rarely allows it. This spring, we are launching wax melts and room sprays in addition to a couple of new signature scents.
How do you define success?
I define success as alignment. It’s the ability to look at what I’m building and feel proud, not just of the outcome, but of the intention behind it. Success, to me, isn’t only about growth or numbers; it’s about creating something that reflects my values, honors my faith, and allows me to use my gifts fully.
Success looks like obedience, consistency, doing the work well, learning as I go, and trusting the process even when the results aren’t immediate. If I can build something meaningful, remain grounded, and grow without compromising who I am, that’s success to me
