Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Corsentino .
Joseph, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a writer, you imagine other worlds. I wasn’t a photographer back then. I had an illustrator who left to become a cop and I was forced by necessity to come up with another way to do my visuals. Photography came next. As a fan of films like Mad Max, Fifth Element, and Legend I aspired to create looks that had a sci-fi fantasy edge with a bit of Japanese editorial street fashion to bring it back to reality.
Has it been a smooth road?
No road is smooth. Even paved roads have pot holes. I created a world about Faeries in the modern world using photography and it is often difficult for people to know what they are looking at and or how to look at it. As a stylist I wanted the world to have a dirty gritty lived in feel. The one thing that has always been easy is that when people look at the work the fashion has always been received with ease. Imagining a species of bad ass faerie girls wearing these things is what people want to be. They leave wanting to dress like these characters and that’s the best compliment one can receive.
What were you like growing up?
I liked making creative projects for people to get involved with. I was always gathering friends and strangers to making something. Be it writing stories or doing photo shoots on the weekends. I always loved the and facilitated the idea of the wrist community. These people were usually high spirited unique individuals who came from the indie, alt, bohemian, raver, goth, or even the geek crowds. Most of my early twenties were spent running around NY with these people and photographing whatever we could come up with. Making videos. Photos. Even some as musicians would write songs. It was our own personal 60’s.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Probably what I just talked about. Running around with NYC as our playground and testing novel whatever location we decided to visit and watching my crazy dressed friends model and play for the cameras. Every weekend the world was ours.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I just wrapped in my first novel that is joined with an Artbook showcasing the time of the Faeries universe. It closes a chapter in my life as I am now free to explore whatever ideas are next. To right now we are promoting “Spitfires: A Time of the Faeries Story” and will be for some time. The Totf fashion and style are heavily something I wish to expand on.
