Bringing forth leading women across industries and backgrounds, the annual Fashion and Beauty Summit is Kimberly’s mission in action, serving as a unified front for women to embrace themselves and each other, authentically and powerfully. With unwavering pride in the many talents of Detroit women, Kimberly originates and creatively directs events unlike any other; her way of not only telling but showcasing her appreciation for all women who walk boldly in their purpose.
Since its inception in 2013, Posh and Popular have evolved into an international and multidimensional brand allowing Kimberly to serve women immeasurably. An originator within the blogging industry, Kimberly has transformed what began as a fashion blog for sharing tips with friends, into the immersive platform which thrives today. Merging her affinity and expertise in beauty and styling, the Posh and Popular Beauty Concierge has driven Kimberly to execute all-encompassing beauty activations for women throughout Detroit. Since launching concierge services, Kimberly has directed comprehensive events for women of Fortune 500 companies including General Motors. She continually provides opportunities for emerging stylists, makeup artists, and cosmetologists to display their skill sets and earn recognition.
Inspired by the powerful transformation of one of her closest friends who emerged from incarceration to successful entrepreneurship, Kimberly launched the P.O.S.H. and Popular Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting women who are transitioning from prison and domestic abuse circumstances. Providing them with essential resources and support, Kimberly pushes past challenges to help these resilient women re-acclimate to life and set their aims higher toward becoming business owners in the fashion and beauty space. Kimberly combines grace, grit and faith to inspire others to do the same. Understanding all too well the consequences of being crippled by fear, she charges forward in her servitude and remains steadfast on her journey of becoming a respected figure of impact.
Kimberly is taking Posh and Popular to new realms with the launch of the Fashion and Beauty Collective, a monthly membership program for women’s continuous support and connection. Forging her own path in multifaceted womanhood, empowerment, and creative manifestation, Kimberly Dobine is changing the face of what is popular in the lifestyle space.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth doing happens overnight, nor is it a smooth process. It has taken me six years to build the brand and online community I have built. I still face challenges to this day. From securing sponsorship deals for our annual Fashion and Beauty Summit each year to trying to figure out the next thing I should be doing to expand my brand. I have dealt with unsuccessful collaborations with other individuals, to struggling to figure out what types of products and services I should offer for my business. It has not been easy, but it has all been worth it. To look back and see how far I’ve come and what I have accomplished it simply amazing! But I still have a long way to go, which makes the journey even more exciting and interesting!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the POSH AND POPULAR story. Tell us more about the business.
Posh and Popular started off as just a blog and has grown into a digital platform where you can find a great mix of personal style, beauty, and lifestyle tips for any budget. It’s where the classy and edgy collide. Posh and Popular is a lifestyle brand and online community curating content and experiences for the Posh Woman on the go. For over six years we have developed great content for our subscribers to read, listen to, and watch while providing fashionably curated events for her to attend that have garnered the attention of millions in social media impressions. Recognized as a go-to-guide for the stylishly fabulous professional girl on the go, events like the Ultimate Sip and Slay and The Fashion and Beauty Summit have been an excellent addition to the brand.
When I started the Posh and Popular Blog I saw a need in the marketplace for more transparent inspirational stories within the fashion and beauty sector and began The Posh and Popular Fashion and Beauty Summit. The Posh and Popular Fashion and Beauty Summit is a daylong interactive conference for female entrepreneurs looking to cultivate the career they’ve always aspired to obtain in the fashion and beauty industry and walk away with the tools they’ll need to successfully launch a business in the fashion and beauty industry! The third annual Fashion and Beauty Summit is the first event of its kind in the city of Detroit.
Providing lovers of the fashion and beauty industries the tools they need to grow their own brands, learn from some of the best names in the industry, and connect with other like-minded businesswomen who share the same passion for entrepreneurship and professionalism in the fashion and beauty industry
The Fashion and Beauty Summit is a three-day interactive event for creative women who desire to ignite passion and bring innovation to the world through expanding their gifts within the fashion and beauty industry. We exist to empower and support women to become powerhouses as they take ownership of the platform and talents they have and use it to influence the world around them through beauty! We do this with our annual Fashion and Beauty summit, and through impactful events, like our Ultimate Sip and Slay, The Business of Beauty, and more that we create for our community at large.
The Fashion and Beauty Summit was created for women like me. The women who know they were built with special talents and gifts that need to be shared with the world and to show women of color that their gifts matter. The game-changers. Women from all across the country come to learn from like-minded individuals who are out there making exceptional moves within the fashion and beauty business, and learn how you too can do the same. They come to get inspired and leave with practical advice on how to make their dreams a reality as a woman pursuing her dreams in fashion and beauty! I am most proud of the impact my brand and it’s collaborative efforts, have made to help so many women pursue their dreams with tangible resources and tools to successfully do so!
The thing that sets me apart from most is my authenticity and my consistency to truly engage with the women that respond to my brand’s efforts to impact women in a real way.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my industry continuing to grow! Women are a force to be reckoned with. Entrepreneurship is up 400% in the African American community among females! And it’s only going to continue to grow, because now more than ever, women are more interested in creating a business they are passionate about.
I see my brand growing into full retail and consulting services over the next two years. And the Fashion and Beauty Summit growing into an even bigger event year after year!
