Today we’d like to introduce you to Kharissa Love.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First and foremost, thank you Voyage LA for inviting me for another feature story on this platform. I truly appreciate all that you do to bring people and stories together!
My name is Kharissa Love, but my creative alias is La Negra Diabla. Despite such an intimidating name, my brand and I are actually quite the opposite than what the name would lead you to believe. Since graduating from university, I’ve been learning and molding my entrepreneurship and my creative career. I started a media company named No 9 To 5, which has been in a hiatus since 2020. I also have been currently expanding on my wellness brand, Voodoo Magic Beauty, which is a lifestyle brand aimed to create a community of wellness in all dimensions and aspects of life with journal guides, wellness products, and content for people all over the world to feel and see a better quality of life with the tools they are already have. I DJ and plan to expand on this in my brand in this next upcoming year. I also work with other businesses and creatives to help assist in creating and establishing their brands in any capacity that my skills could be utilized, whether it is creatively or in business matters.
I guess to summarize my story, I am a young woman in a changing world where my intention is always pure and I strive to be happy in all that I do, however that may end up looking like.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me. I think as an adult living in this millenium, our elders have told us that we must stick with a career path to support our lifestyle until it is time to retire. As the pandemic taught many of us, we are multidimensional beings who have the right to explore our skills and pleasures in whatever way and whenever we see fit. I have definitely struggled with picking a linear path to building my entrepreneurship. Now I wouldn’t say this is a weakness or has been an obstacle in my career path, but it has been a truth that I’ve needed to be honest with myself about in order to move comfortably in establishing my brand.
I’ve also constantly struggled with my lack of social media engagement. As a digital brand, it is basically impossible to create without using social media as a marketing tool. To be honest, I’ve never been one to engage or even like these social platforms for my personal use, but I have grown accustomed to using it for my brand. I do feel at times not being a natural social media user is a downfall to my brand because I do not know or care to know how to get attention online. But the best thing about this is that this is a future job for those who do love social media and have a passion for getting content seen so it’s not a struggle that I feel is something grave or career-threatening to me. (and thankfully there are platforms like Voyage LA to get the message out)
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for being a creative. I specialize in digital media, currently with an emphasis on design. I am a chameleon so I do it all as far as media. I write I am proficient at audio engineering, I do photography I edit, I host, etc. Though I also have quite a business and do a lot as far as coordinating, planning and researching, I think it all is a perfect harmony to my brand was a creative entrepreneur.
What sets me apart from others is that I strive to be incognito creative. Though I always see myself being a creative, and even in the spotlight for creative purposes, I genuinely want to always be grateful and humble for just being alive on this beautiful Earth and appreciate my life offline as much as I can.
I am most proud of my confidence to live and grow nonlinearly! And I only become more unapologetic about it with time so extremely proud of that.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
What has worked well for me is being honest and intentional with every word and action at all times. My best advice when it comes to building your community and network of people is to always be honest about how you feel and think, especially with yourself.
