Meet Katrina Ross of Hair Magnifique in Westchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Ross.

Katrina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I was always an outgoing kid with a passion for art and fashion and an entrepreneurial spirit. As an adult, I started a few businesses but none had much to do with art or fashion but they paid the bills. As I grew older and became a mother, I realized that I should be working smarter, not harder. I was a single mom with two boys and no longer was running several businesses the best option. It was about them now. I went for tacos one afternoon and a hair extension store was next to the taco shop. I decided to stop in for a glance. It was at that very moment that I realized what I should be doing. I’ve been wearing hair extensions for nearly 30 years and knew everything there was to know about them. Within a week from that date, I had a new company, Hair Magnifique, and haven’t looked back.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a business is hard enough and has its own challenges but being in the business of hair is a whole other ball game. The competition is fierce, especially in L. A.. The global hair market is an estimated $83.1 billion industry. Finding the right marketing strategy and making your business stand out, among some tough competitors right at your doorstep, is the hardest obstacle to overcome. It takes continuous education, exceptional customer service, know-how, a lot of patience and a huge dose of humble pie to make things happen. I’ve been continuously focused on trying to do what others aren’t, and on finding not-so-obvious targets to market to in order get our name out there and stand above the rest. Offering a super, high-quality product is a huge help as well, and with a little hard work, determination and dedication, we’ve finally seen the light.
