Hi Juan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started from a place of struggle—physically, mentally, and financially. At my heaviest, I weighed nearly 400 pounds and was facing serious health issues. I reached a point where I realized that if I didn’t change, my future was already decided. That moment forced me to take responsibility not just for my health, but for the example I was setting for the people around me.

As I rebuilt my life through discipline, faith, and consistency, I lost over 150 pounds and experienced firsthand how powerful real lifestyle change can be. That transformation opened my eyes to something bigger than myself: most people aren’t lacking information—they’re lacking guidance, structure, and someone willing to be honest with them.

That realization became my mission.

I started Da Moss Plug not just as a business, but as a tool to help others reclaim their health. I committed to sourcing real sea moss directly from Jamaica, learning the entire process from start to finish, and refusing shortcuts that compromise quality or integrity. Every decision I’ve made has been rooted in helping people make better choices, not chasing trends or fast profits.

Today, my focus is impact over ego. I’m building a brand that educates, challenges, and supports people in taking control of their health—especially in communities that are often overlooked or misled. My mission is simple: help people change their habits, change their health, and ultimately change the trajectory of their lives.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been far from smooth. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating logistics and operations while growing without shortcuts. Lost or delayed packages created major stress early on—especially knowing customers were trusting me with their health, not just a product. Even when issues were outside of my control, I took full responsibility, absorbing losses and improving systems to protect customers first.

Another major challenge came from near partnerships that looked promising on paper but revealed misaligned values once conversations got deeper. Walking away from opportunities that could have brought fast money—but at the cost of quality, control, or integrity—was stressful and difficult. Those moments tested my patience and resolve, especially when I had already invested time, energy, and resources.

There were also periods of extreme pressure balancing personal transformation, financial risk, and the responsibility of leading a growing brand alone. Many decisions had no safety net, and mistakes carried real consequences.

Each obstacle forced me to tighten systems, set clearer boundaries, and lead with principle over emotion. Those challenges didn’t slow me down—they shaped the discipline, structure, and standards that define how I operate today.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that has mattered most to my success is my willingness to take risks when others hesitate. I’ve never been afraid to bet on myself, make uncomfortable decisions, or move forward without guarantees. Many of the biggest steps in my journey—changing my health, starting my business, controlling the process from A to Z—required real risk, not comfort.

I take calculated risks rooted in conviction, not impulse. I’m willing to invest time, money, and energy before results are visible, and I’m comfortable standing alone when I believe in the standard I’m building. That mindset allows me to move decisively while others wait for permission or perfect conditions.

Because I’m not driven by fear or outside approval, I can make long-term decisions instead of emotional ones. I’ll walk away from opportunities that don’t align, speak honestly even when it’s unpopular, and continue building even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

Risk-taking, paired with discipline and faith, has been the foundation of everything I’ve built. It’s what allows me to lead with clarity, stay consistent, and create something that lasts.
