Meet Jonathan LaCour of Employees First Labor Law in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan LaCour.

Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started working in corporate and employment law for my family’s business. We always try to do the right thing for employees, to engage with them collaboratively, and help them when medical issues or injuries arise. I had a friend who first came to me after she was being sexually harassed – to an outrageous degree. I couldn’t understand how a company, let alone senior management would be so conniving, manipulative, and terrible to their employees. So I set out to make it right.

Ever since then, in October of 2016, I have helped people who have been injured, discriminated against, harassed on the basis of a protected class, and wrongfully terminated.

I graduated from UC Riverside in 2008 and Loyola Law School | Los Angeles in 2011. My aunt is also an attorney and so I knew from a very young age, I wanted to be a lawyer and help people.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges and pitfalls, but earlier on in my career I would team up with very seasoned trial lawyers with substantial resources to push cases very far. Doing so was a blessing because I have been able to secure a multitude of exceptional friends/mentors who are at the top of the industry who have taught me their best practices and how to be successful over the years. Today, although we have grown tremendously and have the resources – both human and financial resources – to make a major dent in a case, we still team up with my friends and mentors when we have opportunity to secure life-altering results.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Employees First Labor Law – what should we know?
Employees First Labor Law is a labor and employment and workers compensation law firm. We are supremely focused on helping individuals with workplace challenges, and when there’s a case to be had, we do everything we can to secure life-altering results.

In the past four years, we have grown from a single lawyer/solo operation to a four lawyer multiple support staff organization with substantial resources to push cases hard.

Employment law is very difficult and the majority of law firms take cases put in some effort and resolve for mediocre sums. I go out swinging like Mookie Betts in every case and on average, we get substantially more value for cases than the average firm.

Also, as the founder and managing attorney, I make myself extremely available to clients. You don’t find that in the industry, especially with a firm the size of Employees First Labor Law.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Extreme work ethic and my ability to be available for clients at all times.
