Meet Jon Goldfarb of Second Time Around Watch Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Goldfarb.

Hi Jon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Second Time Around Watch Company was started in 1976 by a third generation watchmaker. I purchased the business from the original owner in 2006.
I came from the Automotive Corporate World. I was in the Service Division in an upper middle management position.
The environment changed when founder passed away and family members took over operations. The new President expected us to traet our customers different and to alter our operation, which I was stronglyopposed to, so I resigned.
Upon resigning, I was offered positions of employment by numerous competiors, but I wanted out of the Automotive Industry.
While searching for a small busimness to purchase, I came accross the listing for Second Time Around Watch Company. I always had an interest in watches, and I had a small watch collection.
Because of my service background, we operate the busiiness from a service perspective.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a challenge these past 19 years.
In 2008, the West Hollywood bulding that our store was located in, had a fire. We had to quickly find a new permanent location. After nearly 5 years at that new location, the Landlord decided to tear down that building to buld a much larger building.
The Great Recession of 2007 – 2009 was also a very difficuly period of time.
Then of course there was the Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdown of 2020, whch caused many of our sources to retire or go out of business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We area a Vintage Watch Store. We speacialize in the sale of Vintage Watches that are 40 years old and older. We fully restore/service each watch prior to placing it out for retail sale, We also service both vintage and modern watches.
What sets us aprt from our competitors is that we fully service each and every watch we offer for sale. We provide a 2 year waranty on every watch we sell.
We respond to each and every email and inquiry we receive.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growung up, I was always focused on playing and participting in sports, such as Basketball, Football, and Baseball.
I was also always focused on getting A’s in school. I tended to not live in the moment, which I am still guilty of, as I was focused on the future and not the present.
I tend to be too serious most of the time.

• Our avaerage watch is priced at approximately $1,800
• Our higher priced watches are approximately $5,000 and above
