Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Allyn.
Neutron Parade Creative (NPC) was initially created as a resource for filmmakers in need of original music for their projects. Today NPC focuses almost entirely on photography and small-scale film production. In the next 5 years NPC will expand both photo and film operations, particularly in new-media production, and venture into advertising services for artists and businesses throughout Southern California.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a sole proprietorship the road has had its share of bumps. The single greatest struggle is having to wear the many hats necessary for progress, and striking the appropriate balance between the roles needed for success. You cannot simply be a photographer or producer, you must also be an accountant, a salesman, a coordinator, and anything else the moment calls for.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Neutron Parade Creative story. Tell us more about the business.
Neutron Parade Creative’s primary specialty is portrait photography, including head shots and modelling packages. Portrait sessions are fun, exploratory endeavors which often present new challenges that produce unique results. I am most proud when a portrait captures the natural essence and character of the subject without being contrived or overt. I believe this will be a defining characteristic that separates Neutron Parade Creative from others as time goes on.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I firmly believe luck is simply when preparation and opportunity collide, and in a creative field luck is everything. But you must create most of your own opportunities, and you have to be proactive in your preparation for them. I am always learning more about my field, reading and observing, and I avoid shying away from opportunities that seem too challenging or are outside of my comfort zone.
